What is rare disease day?

Rare Disease Day is the official international awareness-raising campaign for rare diseases which takes place on the last day of February each year. The main objective of the campaign is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients’ lives.

There are over 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease. Together across borders, and across the 6000+ rare diseases we work towards more equitable access to diagnosis, treatment, care and social opportunity.

The CAGC Education Committee is pleased to announce its 2023 webinar series, titled “Thinking Outside of the Box”. The theme of this year's series is contemporary perspectives on traditional genetic counselling concepts. We begin by highlighting how genomic technologies and current world events have created new and unique opportunities for scientific inquiry.

The first webinar in this series, "Sequencing in Individuals Previously Diagnosed with COVID-19: The GENCOV Study Canada", will be presented on February 16th from 12-1pm EST by Selina Casalino, MSc, CCGC.

REGISTER HERE: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2088802042034253145.

After this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the role of genome sequencing in the context of the GENCOV project.
2. Examine how genetics plays a role in hereditary disease risk(s) in addition to COVID-19 susceptibility and outcomes.
3. Recognize the diverse responsibilities of research genetic counsellors.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

This event has been submitted to the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) for approval of Category 1 CEUs. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accepts CEUs approved by NSGC for the purposes of recertification.
An application to the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC) for CECs will also be submitted at the end of this program.
