A community foundation is a registered charity designated to make it easy, beneficial and inexpensive for people and corporations to establish perpetual endowments in their name. This Sunday, October 18th is Persons Day, marking the historic decision in 1929 to include women in the legal definition of “persons.”

The Women's Giving Collective (WGC) launched in 2018 on Persons Day.

October is Women’s History Month.

Women and Gender Equity Initiatives is one of the causes of our annual GIVEOakville campaign. The campaign runs from November 13 to December 7, 2026.

GIVEOakville is a great way to support women in Oakville.

During the campaign, donate to the Women and Gender Equity Initiatives cause and we will distribute the funds to all charities in that group.

A safe place to go wasn’t always there.

In the early 1970s, women trying to escape abuse were often left with few options and nowhere designed specifically for their safety. A small group of women in Toronto decided that had to change.

On April 1, 1973, Interval House opened its doors, becoming Canada’s first shelter for women and children escaping abuse. What began with a group of women recognizing a gap would help launch a shelter movement across the country.

More than 50 years later, shelters like ours are part of the legacy of the women who saw what was missing and built something that had never existed before.

This Women’s History Month, we’re looking back at some of the women and moments that changed how Canada understands and responds to violence against women.

On Friday, Karin Douglas, our Office Assistant, and her daughter attended Food for Life 's Open House!

This family-friendly Gather for Good event gave community members the chance to learn more about Food for Life’s mission and see food rescue in action.

Last year, Food for Life redistributed 4.6 million pounds of food through 90 food access points, supporting more than 4,600 households every week.

Food for Life is a GIVEOakville charity. The campaign runs from November 13 to December 7 but donations can be made year-round to the GIVEOakville Fund.
