A community foundation is a registered charity designated to make it easy, beneficial and inexpensive for people and corporations to establish perpetual endowments in their name. These endowments may be structured to support your favourite charities, fields of interest (e.g. education, the environment), scholarships, memorials, or current needs as determined by the Oakville Community Foundation's Grants Committee.

The Oakville Community Foundation resides in Oakville on the traditional territory of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Anishnaabeg. Our community lies on the shores of Lake Ontario, from the Wendat word Ontari’io. The OCF and many of our community members care for, enjoy and appreciate its abundant biodiversity, beaches, harbours, lakeside parks and natural beauty 💙

In June of this year Our Gathering Lodge officially opened! It is a dedicated space for use by and for Indigenous community members.

Located inside the Queen Elizabeth Community & Cultural Centre, Our Gathering Lodge realizes an original request from 2019 and has been envisioned as a Truth & Reconciliation initiative in Oakville to further the relationship and connection between all local treaty and traditional Indigenous community members.

The idea was to bring an Indigenous Knowledge Centre to Halton where Indigenous teachings and ceremonies could be shared for the healing of all our relations because belonging matters.

The concept was part of our 25 Community Conversations engagement project in 2019 which began with outreach to more than 50 community groups to learn how Oakville could foster more belonging and inclusiveness over the next 25 years.

Indigenous community members interested in using the space to run and facilitate meetings, events and other uses of the space can contact [email protected].

In June 2022, the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton opened the Community & Harmony Garden.

The idea was to build a Community Garden to provide those in need with fresh produce and to act as a space to bring people together.

The concept was part of our 25 Community Conversations engagement project in 2019 which began with outreach to more than 50 community groups to learn how Oakville could foster more belonging and inclusiveness over the next 25 years.

Garden plots are open for community use in the green space behind the Queen Elizabeth Community & Cultural Centre. 🥕🍅🫜
