4:ONEoakville was founded in Feb 2014 by 4 women and 1 man who believed "it is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing, because you can only do little" (Sydney Smith)
We had heard a lot about modern day slavery, that not only did it exist, but that it was a thriving, more than $32 billion a year industry. And simply put, we wanted to do whatever we could to make a difference. The name 4:ONEoakv
ille was chosen based on two things.
1. universal declaration of human rights which states in Article 4:1 - "No one shall be held in slavery or servitude."
2. Ecclesiastes 4:1 which says, "I saw the tears of the oppressed-- and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors-- and they have no comforter. Our focus is in 2 areas:
1. Public Awareness - we offer workshops and information sessions on trafficking here in Ontario.
2. Survivor Support - we help raise funds for those providing front line support and housing of survivors and provide First Response Bags for those exiting trafficking. See website for details. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has." (Margaret Mead)
"Having heard all of this, you may choose to look the other way, but you can never again say that you did not know." (William Wilberforce)
"The power of ONE man or women doing the RIGHT thing for the RIGHT reason, and at the RIGHT time, is the greatest influence in our society." (Jack Kemp)
We believe the RIGHT time is now....
