This past weekend, the Manitoulin Royal Canadian Sea Cadets joined fellow cadets from Sault Ste. Marie, Elliot Lake, Sudbury, North Bay, and Timmins for an exciting weekend on Lake Ramsey.
Cadets enjoyed hands-on boating activities, teamwork exercises, skill development, and plenty of time on the water. It was a fantastic weekend filled with learning, adventure, and fun for everyone involved.
The weekend was also highlighted by the presence of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Marine Unit and the RCMP Border Integrity Marine Vessel, whose officers shared valuable information on boating safety, marine operations, and law enforcement on the water. Their participation provided cadets with a unique opportunity to learn from experienced marine professionals and to see specialized police vessels up close.
Through the Sea Cadet program, youth have the opportunity to earn their Pleasure Craft Operator Card (boater's licence), obtain their Marine Radio Operator Certificate (ROC-M), and develop proficiency in the safe handling and operation of pleasure craft.
Training continues Monday evenings in Little Current, where cadets gain practical experience using our own fleet of boats. This is made possible in part through the generous support of the Little Current Lions Club, whose donation helped fund the purchase of one of our training vessels.
