Saturday June 20th, the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes gathered in Northbrook for a truly memorable day at the Emergency Preparedness Plan Donor Wall Reveal Ceremony.

The Lions Hall was beautifully prepared for the occasion, with special décor marking the importance of the milestone and welcoming guests, community members, donors, and distinguished visitors.

The event brought together all levels of community leadership and service in recognition of a project that represents years of dedication and collaboration.

We were honoured to welcome Shelby Kramp-Neuman MP, MPP Ric Bresee, Reeve Tony Fritsch, Mayor Gerry Lichty, Lions LCIF MDA Chair Renee Devenny, District Governor Bryan Adams, and LCIF District A3 Chair Don Radnor, who all shared words of appreciation and recognition for the work completed and the community behind it.

Club President Lion Sandra Carman opened the ceremony with heartfelt gratitude, followed by reflections from Capital Campaign Chair Lion Red Emond and Emergency Preparedness Plan Chair Lion Lynn Lynn Dion Lowe , who spoke to the journey, commitment, and purpose behind the project.

The event was guided by Lion Mike Hage as Emcee, leading guests through a meaningful program that included the official Donor Wall unveiling, recognition moments, and the ceremonial cake cutting.

One of the highlights of the day was the warm atmosphere inside the hall filled with conversation, appreciation, and pride in what has been accomplished together. Guests were also invited to tour the upgraded facility, led by Lion Tom Hunter and Lion Richard Withers, showcasing the transformation made possible through community support.

Every detail of the event reflected the same message: this was not just a project completion; it was a community milestone.

A moment of pride. A moment of gratitude. A moment shared.

On June 20th, at the Emergency Preparedness Plan Donor Wall Reveal Ceremony in Northbrook, at the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes proudly unveiled something permanent.

A wall of names.

A wall of generosity.

A wall that represents the people who made community safety possible.

Because of the following donors, our Capital Campaign not only met, but exceeded its $200,000 goal, ensuring the Lions Hall is now upgraded to meet Emergency Shelter standards for our region:

OUR DONORS:

Ian Brumell & Margaret Axford (Mazinaw Community Fund)
Gordon Hunter (Lakeport Power Inc)
Lions Clubs International Foundation
District A3 Lions
Sharbot Lake & District Lions Club
Brad Douglas (YourWay Home Hardware)
Lois Emond
Quinte Builders Hardware Ltd
Rashotte Home Hardware
Skootamata & District Ratepayers Association
Cecil Smitty (Smitty’s Appliances)
Denbigh-Griffith Lions Club
Carquest Auto Parts

Every one of these names represents belief in this community. Not just support; but trust, commitment, and action.

This project was not built for today. It was built for preparedness, for resilience, and for a future we all hope never arrives, but one we are now ready for because of them.

To every donor listed above:

You are the reason this became possible.
This belongs to you.

Sometimes we have to start a post with WOW!

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE POSTS.

The last meeting of the year (June 17, 2026). This was the last meeting led by our current President Sandra Carman, during which she passed the gavel to our upcoming President Lynn Dion Lowe. And that alone could make a great meeting.

But, this was a WOW meeting, not just a great one.

Let's see if we can capture the mood and events in a few words.

THE HALL WAS PACKED! look at the pictures!

We had a few very special visitors (and we LOVE IT when we have visitors)! Members of Sharbot Lake & District accompanied our Guest Speaker, PDG Linda Zwier who was invited to install the new Board of Directors of the club. (Names of Board of Directors will be in a separate post).

PDG Linda spoke from the heart. She took the club on a memory trip of the days when she and late PDG Bill used to visit a struggling club that has now become the largest club in District A3. She mentioned the support she received from the club upon the passing away of Bill, and, to everyone's surprise, she touched all hearts when she presented the club with a donation cheque in his memory to be used to any of our youth programs.

Annnndddd, members of Odessa Lions Club accompanied the "Travelling Lion" ... yes ... we will explain this ... but, a picture says a million words they say ... well ... look at those pictures! But, suffice to say a hazmat suit, goggles, and lots and lots and lots of screws were involved!

President Sandra recognized the Lions that went over and above the call of service during her term.

Lions: Sheila Hawley & Cecil - Karen Jon Anderson & Warren Anderson for 💯 attendance throughtout the year.

For Lions Service Focus Areas:
For Hunger: Lions Lois & Red Emond
For Environment: Lion Rebecca Clark
For Humanitarian: Lions John Rosenblath & Jamie Adams
For Diabetes: Lion Louise Davis (recipient of a HARRY NEWMAN Award).

For Lions who served the community through exceptional social activities:
Lions Kathy Shortt & Gary (The Farmer's Market Canteen)
Lion Chuck Davis (The Golf Tournament)

For New Lions who dedicated hours of service:
Edward Ashberry, Ann Mambella and Chris Courneyea

For Excellence in Service to the Club: Lions Tom Hunter & Richard Withers.

But before those two reached back to their seats they were called upon again to receive:

TOM HUNTER LION OF THE YEAR
RICHARD WITHERS MELVIN JONES FELLOWSHIP (both Lions awards and reason for receiving will be in separate posts). Congratulations, so well deserved.

Of course, for her more than exceptional dedication, care, commitment and leadership above self, the club recognized our President with an award presented to her by her Secretary Lion Tom Hunter.

Dinner was phenomenal with Kathy creating a "Taco Bar", and in true Kathy style, full decoration followed!

The meeting ended following the traditions of Odessa Lions when Lion David Shane sent us all laughing with his Good for Lionism anecdote!

PS MORE AWARDS AND RECOGNITION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE NEXT MEETING AS RECIPIENTS WERE NOT PRESENT AT THIS MEETING.
