The Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals living with sickle cell disease and their families. Founded in 2005, SCAGO works to bridge gaps in healthcare, foster inclusive community support, and advocate for systemic change that ensures equitable care and resources for sickle cell warriors. Through educatio

n, public awareness, and policy advocacy, we empower patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to make informed decisions and drive progress. We collaborate with healthcare providers, researchers, policymakers, and diverse communities to advance knowledge, champion equity, and amplify the voices of those affected by sickle cell disease in Ontario. Our focus areas:
• Patient and caregiver support
• Education and awareness campaigns
• Research and clinical advocacy
• Policy change for equitable healthcare
• Youth engagement and leadership

With more than a decade of experience in strategic communications and human-centred engagement, Dainah brings a powerful perspective shaped by both her professional expertise and lived experience as a parent of a child living with sickle cell disease. As a Patient and Family Advisor with Scarborough Health Network, she has helped advance patient-centred care, including contributing to the co-design of the Adult Sickle Cell Clinic.
