30 Years of Black History- Celebrating Black Excellence

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Demenica Delu Community Centre, we came together to celebrate 30 years of Black excellence, leadership, heritage, and culture. It was a moment to honour our past, celebrate our culture, and recommit to building a stronger future for our communities. Together, we continue to strengthen the community, build a legacy, and shape a future grounded in justice, leadership, and collective progress.

The day featured a vibrant Cultural Showcase led by Dabulacase Centre, ECDI, Uzima Women’s Relief International, and the Kenyan Women in Canada Association. We were inspired by a powerful Keynote Address by Dr. Macaulay Obasi Kalu, who reminded us that this moment is more than a celebration — it is a call to action:

"I stand before you not merely to commemorate Black History Month.
I come to challenge us.
I stand here to provoke a shift.
Because the theme before us — ‘Building a Legacy: Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future’ — is not ceremonial. It is a mandate."

The celebration continued with an engaging panel discussion featuring community leaders Rita Asare, Maxwell Zoumari, Viviane Sinan, and Laetitia Uwineza, followed by a stunning cultural dance performance by My Root Foundation.

During our Recognition Ceremony, we proudly honoured Chief Benjamin Chike Allison with the African Community Leadership Award, and the late Mr. David Sinah with a Posthumous Award for his lasting contributions to the community.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Canadian Heritage, our speakers, performers, volunteers, partners, and all who attended to make this celebration meaningful and impactful.
