As organizations and individuals continue to increase their use of AI, data security is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

This CharityVillage article by Tina Crouse is a practical guide for nonprofits thinking about privacy, consent, storage, and control. It breaks down why organizations need clear systems for handling sensitive data, especially when using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or Claude.

Of note for our audience, the article brings attention to Indigenous data sovereignty and OCAP principles. For organizations working with First Nations communities, protecting data is not just a technical issue. It is about consent, governance, and respect.

Recommended reading for nonprofit teams thinking about AI, privacy, and responsible data use.

From May 25 to 29, the Government of Canada is offering The Learning Week on Artificial Intelligence, giving public servants at all levels a focused, week-long opportunity to deepen their understanding of AI.

It is a clear sign of how important AI literacy has become across today’s workforce. Employees in both the public and private sectors need opportunities to understand how AI is changing the way we work, where it can create value, and where it introduces risk.

While participation in this particular initiative is limited to public service employees, it offers a useful reminder for businesses and organizations across all sectors: building AI literacy cannot be left to chance. Teams need space to learn, ask questions, test ideas, and build the confidence to use AI responsibly.

Learning Week on Artificial Intelligence offers opportunities for public servants to deepen their understanding of AI by dedicating time to explore insightful learning products on the responsible use of AI and by engaging with AI specialists during live events and discussions.
