Deep Cove Heritage Society

Deep Cove Heritage Society Deep Cove Heritage Society is a group of dedicated members whose mandate is to develop an understanding, preservation and appreciation of our local heritage.

Founded in 1985, and incorporated in 2000, our organization acquires, preserves and displays the collective memories of our community's history - photographs, documents and transcripts, tapes and videos of interviews with local pioneers. We provide educational presentations to school groups, seniors and visitors to our community.

Beep Beep, coming through!

Here we see the Soap Box Derby going down Second Street, which we now know as Gallant Ave. Possible in the 1950's.

Does anyone know what year this may have been? Or have memories from the Soap Box Derby? We'd love to hear!

Come get some of the best Fish & Chips around!

The Crab Shop has long been an institute in the Maplewood/Dollarton area. Opening in 1961, it has seen several different locations, rebuilt after a fire and now serves its famous fish & chips, and other delicious seafood, to customers at 2455 in the Dollarton Landing Plaza.

Do you remember one of the old Crab Shops on Dollarton? Or happen to know what year this photo may be from?

Happy New Year from the Deep Cove Heritage Society!

This group of people is enjoying New Years Day up Indian Arm at the Wigwam Inn, which still hosts New Years celebrations to this day.

Do you recognize anyone in this group? Possibly the 1940s. We would love to know more about this photo.

Happy Holidays from the Deep Cove Heritage Society!

Here, we see Christmas at the Deep Cove Motel - people unidentified. Joe and Reta Thornley began the Motel in the 1950's. After a phone line was installed, they could hardly keep up with the demand of people wanting to spend the Holidays at the Motel in the picturesque Deep Cove.

Do you have memories of the Deep Cove Motel and the Thornbys?

Ian Beaton would be happy to hear Mount Seymour is opening soon! Here is Ian and two friends on Mount Seymour in the 1940's.

Do you recognize these women? We'd love to know who they are.

Mount Seymour is opening the Goldie Meadows Learning Area tomorrow, Saturday December 20th! And with snow in the forecast, more trails should open soon!

Rain, rain, go away!

That is sure what the Deep Cove community was thinking during the 1957 flood, as overflowing creeks ran wild down Gallant Ave (then known as Second Street). A sight a bit too familiar these days.

Stay dry everyone. And don't forget to clear those storm drains!

Does your family have memories of the 1957 flood? We'd love to hear!

Stop on by Stirrat General store for your Halloween treats!

Stirrat General Store, seen here in 1957, was opened by Robert Stirrat Jr in 1935 and located at 386 Dollarton Highway. The General Store provided groceries and necessities to the growing Dollarton community. His son, Robert Stirrat Sr (second image, ca. 1955), ran the store from the 1940's onward.

We would love to hear any memories the community may have of Stirrat General store!
