This presentation will explore Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), including how it affects deer, elk, and moose, how you can support BC’s CWD Surveillance Program, and the latest food-safety guidance for hunters and communities.

Who are our Presenters?
Dr. Amélie Mathieu is a zoo and wildlife veterinarian based in British Columbia, Canada. She became a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine in 2023. Dr. Mathieu blends her expertise in zoo and wildlife veterinary medicine to support wildlife conservation efforts. She collaborates with federal and provincial government agencies, First Nations communities and governments, nongovernmental organizations, zoos and industry stakeholders to create a sustainable future for both wildlife and the ecosystems they inhabit.
Tzvetelina Petkova is an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) with First Nation Health Authority and is based in the East Kootenays supporting the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc communities(Shuswap in Invermere). As an EHO she partners with communities to provide advice and guidance to First Nations leadership in BC on a wide range of environmental health topics including drinking water, food safety, air quality, housing and environmental health assessments, and emergency preparedness. More recently, Tzvetelina has been raising awareness about chronic wasting disease along with Dr. Amelie Mathieu and the provincial government
