Sharing with you on behalf of Elizabeth May - "I am appealing to members of your organization to collect signatures for Green Party leader Elizabeth May’s petition in the House of Commons, calling for an Exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada for our immensely popular master wildlife artist and acclaimed conservationist Robert Bateman. He turns 96 on May 24th and he still paints every day.

Canadians will be shocked to learn that for 50 years, the National Gallery of Canada’s stand has been that Bateman’s wildlife art “lacks deep emotional or cultural merit” and is not suitable for the ‘serious’ art world.

At the prestigious Smithsonian Institute in Washington, Bateman’s exhibition
“drew such massive crowds that it broke all attendance records, a landmark event for a living artist” An astounding 275,000 people. That was in 1987. And still, there’s been no such recognition in his own country at the NGC.

Petition signatures across Canada will carry weight to make this happen.
• Also send a letter to your MP if possible

They’re still here.
But their future is not guaranteed.
Our oceans — and the life within them — need protection now more than ever.
Let’s protect what remains. 🌊

Once it’s gone… it’s gone.
Wildlife depends on the choices we make today.
Protect the habitats that still remain — before they disappear.
This is their home too. 🦅

Start where you are. 🌱
Plant native.
Create safe spaces.
Protect what’s around you.
You don’t need to go far to make a difference.
Small actions — right here at home — matter more than you think.

They need space to survive.
Shorebirds rest, feed, and nest along our coasts — often in the same places we walk every day.
A simple step back can make all the difference.
Give them space.
Give them a chance. 🐦

Wildlife lives here too. 🌿
In our parks.
Along our shorelines.
In the heart of our cities.
This Earth Day, take a moment to notice who you share your space with.
Because protecting wildlife doesn’t start somewhere far away…
It starts right here.

Last week our KBA Manager Liam Ragan and partner on the Papt Ku Gwenis project Morris Prosser joined a panel hosted by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC on Citizen Based Reconciliation. They shared advice on building conservation partnerships between First Nations communities and Naturalist Clubs, drawing on our multi-year partnership on the Papt Ku Gwenis project between Tsal’alh First Nation, BC Nature, and Lillooet Naturalists Society with funding support from the Watershed Security Fund. To learn more about this partnership and the endemic, winter-spawning, jet black Gwenis (Kokanee salmon), check out the BC Nature Spring 2025 magazine, and tune in for more updates to come! 💧

Ecological Reserve Warden Opportunity– Big Creek Ecological Reserve
BC Parks is seeking an Ecological Reserve Warden for Big Creek Ecological Reserve, an important protected area known for its rugged landscapes and ecological significance in the Cariboo Chilcotin region. This reserve protects sensitive ecosystems and species that rely on careful stewardship and minimal disturbance.

Ecological Reserve Wardens play a meaningful role in conservation by helping to look after these special places. Wardens support the long‑term protection of the reserve through occasional site visits, observation and reporting, and by helping BC Parks monitor and safeguard the ecological values of the area.

This volunteer role is well suited to individuals with an interest in conservation, natural history, and who enjoys spending time in beautiful, less‑traveled landscapes. Serving as a warden is a rewarding way to contribute directly to the care of British Columbia’s most special natural areas.
