Cape Breton Nordic AGM is Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 6pm — Club Room, Seaview Golf Course, North Sydney.

Last winter was our best season ever.

For our efforts, Sport Nova Scotia named us COMMUNITY SPORT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR.

We tripled our membership to 100, a club record.
Volunteers kept the trails skiable 48 days straight. We had better skiing than most clubs in Canada.
About 30 skiers and snowshoers out on a typical day, aged 2 to 90 — including people with disabilities and newcomers to Canada on snow for the first time.
We organized two free community access days: Family & Youth Day (Feb 15, ~40 people, free rentals and lessons, and the launch of Active Adventure Sports for Kids) and the Spring Ski Celebration (Mar 8, ~30 people) with CBRM support.
We made people aware that nordic skiing is alive and well in Cape Breton, with steady social media, two CBC interviews, coordination with the other Cape Breton clubs and CCNS, and partnerships with CBRM, Escape Outdoors and Seaview Golf Club.

The AGM is your chance help build on this success. We're looking for new board members and for your ideas on where the club goes next: more kids on skis, more free lessons and rentals so anyone can try it, improving our trail grooming & equipment, more community events, building our partnerships with CBRM, the province and other ski clubs, increasing our membership. etc. ???

Tonight, at the Support 4 Sport AWARDS in Halifax our very own Cape Breton Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Club won the Community Sport Organization of the Year award!

This honour comes on the heels of our collective effort this winter. Congratulations everyone!

Our citation reads:

"Cape Breton Nordic Ski and Snowshoe's 2025-2026 season was a turning point for the club. Starting with just 17 registered members in early January, the club grew to 96 by season's end, more than doubling any previous membership record.

Participation spanned nine decades, from two year olds to a 90-year-old skier and the club became a welcoming point for newcomers to Canada and individuals with disabilities.

The trail network remained accessible for 48 consecutive days, with a volunteer grooming sub-committee providing nearly daily track conditions.

Key events included a Family and Youth Day and a Spring Ski Celebration in partnership with Cape Breton Regional Municipality drew new participants and volunteers alike.

Through partnerships with Escape Outdoors and Seaview Golf & Country Club, the club has built a sustainable and growing home for Nordic skiing in Cape Breton."

Reminder. VOLUNTEERS needed today (Saturday, April 11) at 1PM at Seaview Golf & Country Club.

WORK BEE at 1:00 pm to pack away the ski club's equipment and clean out the rental room at the golf club.

BONUS - we are running our annual SKI WAXING CLINIC/SERVICE to prepare your skis for storage.

Cost is a nominal $5.00/pair or FREE if you help volunteer as part of the work bee.

End of season, SKI WAXING CLINIC/SERVICE & WORK BEE this Saturday April 11th at 1PM at Seaview Golf & Country Club.

Former national team skier Louis Helbig will run a ski waxing clinic for anyone wanting to learn more about waxing their skis including how to prepare them with storage wax for summer.

We will have all the equipment and supplies. Bring your skis.

Cost is a nominal $5.00/pair or free if you help volunteer as part of the work bee cleaning up and packing away the club's ski & other equipment at the golf course.
