Last week, several downtown business owners had the opportunity to meet with federal Minister of Small Business, Rechie Valdez, to share the successes, growth opportunities, and challenges facing small businesses in North Sydney.

It was a valuable opportunity to highlight the voices and experiences of our local business community.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 22nd from 6–7 p.m. and join us for The Witching Hour — a free, family-friendly Halloween evening in the heart of downtown.

What’s brewing?

🧙🏼‍♀️ A live street performance by the Celtic Witches of the Cape
🎥 An outdoor movie screening of The Toy Story of Terror
🎃 Our Carved Pumpkin Contest. Start thinking about your silliest or spookiest creation! Stay tuned for more information on how to register.
🌾 Merchant storefront scarecrow displays
🍬 Free treats and drinks
👻 Costumes are encouraged!

The event will take place on the first block of Commercial St. between Blowers St. and Court St. (which will be closed to vehicular traffic during that hour). Bring your blanket or chair, dress up in your Halloween best, bring the family, and come enjoy a little bit of Halloween magic downtown!

Think your pumpkin has what it takes to be the best in North Sydney? Put your carving skills to the test for a chance to win $100 CASH, generously sponsored by Hair Masters North Sydney.

The Prize: $100 cash and the bragging rights of being crowned Best Carved Pumpkin in Downtown North Sydney! 😁

How To Enter: Register by emailing [email protected]. Bring your carved pumpkin to the event site (first commercial block between Blowers St. and Court St.) at 5:30 PM before The Witching Hour begins. All entered pumpkins will be displayed during The Witching Hour.

How To Win: After the event, all entered pumpkins will be photographed and posted on Facebook for everyone to vote on! The pumpkin that receives the MOST VOTES will be crowned the winner and take home the $100 cash prize! 🏆💰

Just in: A “Bread Loafer” has been spotted at Subway. Witnesses have heard him muttering, “I’m born to loaf, not to work!” as he daydreams out the window.

Subway staff have been advised to keep an eye on this crumby character. If you encounter any mischievous activity by the Bread Loafer, please phone 902-794-BOOO!

Representing Jumpstart, this little lobster is playing hockey or soccer, and is making sure kids in need have equal access to sport and physical activity!
