Battlefords and District Community Foundation (BDCF) has announced the establishment of the David and Melissa Schell Fund. This local family has created this fund to support local agencies that are meaningful to their family. The donor advised fund will provide annual grants to a range of causes.

“I guess the main reason why we decided to give is because we are wanting to strengthen our community,” said David Schell. “Melissa and I both work in the Battlefords our kids go to school, play sports, and dance here. By supporting important causes, we contribute to the opportunities, resources, and support for those who need it most.”

The first grants from the fund went to: Battlefords Healthcare Foundation, Humane Society of the Battlefords, Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre and Ronald McDonald House.

đź’žDarin Schaefer was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2019. Through his battle with cancer he always remained optimistic and full of hope. On a daily basis he was reminded of the support and love received by others. He always felt there were so many going through a much more difficult time than him. He knew he wanted to pay it forward for all the support that people had given him and his family. Terra, Damon, Kennedy and Kesha are proud to honor his wish by creating the Warrior Fund because there were so many warriors that stood behind them.

The fund was established to provide financial support for medical expenses incurred by/on behalf of an applicant who has a critical and/or life-threatening disease. Medical expenses are defined to be expenses that qualify for deduction as provided for by the Canadian Income Tax Act.
