Dedicated to improving the Well Being of animals and educating the public in and around our community .We are committed to helping each potential owner choose an animal best suited to the owner's lifestyle. Each animal currently available for adoption has his or her own special story and some have yet to feel the comfort and security of a loving home. Your interest in adopting one of our special friends means that you are a caring and responsible person. Make no "bones"about it - adopting a pet is a very important decision! And, like any important decision, it requires a lot of thought and consideration. We speak for those who can not speak for themselves.

🐾💚 MEET SAGE — PART-TIME HUGGER, FULL-TIME ESCAPE ARTIST!

Sage is a 3-year-old Greyhound mix with brains, energy, and just enough mischief to keep you on your toes. She’s curious, loves exploring, and always wants to know what’s happening around the next corner.

She can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but once you’re in her circle, get ready for affection! Sage is a BIG hugger who loves leaning into her favourite people and soaking up attention. Earn her trust, and you’ll have a loyal companion who wants to be close to you. 💚

Now, about that adventurous streak… Sage likes to test fences to see if they’re really as secure as everyone claims. Apparently, she believes every fence deserves a thorough inspection. 😂 A tall, secure fence is a must, and a farm could be an excellent fit if it offers safe, secure containment.

Sage needs an active home that appreciates her clever, curious nature, gives her time to warm up, and keeps her safe while she explores. In return, you’ll get a smart, energetic best friend who’s always ready for an adventure—and a hug afterward!

😰🐾 MEET FRET — HE’S GOT A LOT ON HIS MIND!

Fret is a tricolour Australian Kelpie mix… or at least that’s our best guess! What we know for sure is that he’s earned his name. This boy worries about EVERYTHING.

Something moved? Concerning.
Something didn’t move? Also concerning.
A completely normal Tuesday? Fret would like to discuss it.

Underneath all those worries is a genuinely friendly boy who has been making progress and becoming more comfortable over time. Fret can form strong bonds with his trusted people, and once you’ve earned his trust, that connection means a lot to him.

Fret will need a patient person who understands that confidence takes time. He’ll need new experiences introduced slowly, plenty of reassurance, and someone who celebrates the little victories along the way.

He may have a few too many things to fret about right now, but with the right person by his side, we hope he’ll discover that the world has plenty of good things waiting for him, too. 💚

🧡🦃 THANKFUL FOR OUR VILLAGE! 🐾

This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling extra grateful for the people and organizations who help us care for the animals at Battlefords Humane Society!

❤️ To our amazing community: thank you for your monetary donations, supplies, visits, volunteer hours, and for opening your homes to our animals through adoption. A special thank-you to our dog walkers, who give our dogs exercise, mental stimulation, and a much-needed break from kennel life. Those walks help reduce stress and make a real difference!

🐕 To Northern Transitional Dog Rescue (NTDR): thank you for partnering with us to support dogs who struggle with the shelter environment. Your help gives them opportunities to thrive beyond the kennel.

🐱 To the Saskatoon SPCA: this year, we faced overwhelming cat intakes twice, and you stepped up both times. Thanks to your help, we were able to transfer a total of 33 cats into your care, giving us much-needed breathing room and those cats a chance at finding their forever homes. We’re so grateful you helped us when we needed it most!

🐾 To The Purrfect Cup Cat Cafe: thank you for being our partner in Saskatoon and providing a place for our cats to stay while they wait for their forever homes. By housing our cats, you help expand our capacity here at BHS, allowing us to help even more animals in need. We’re so thankful to have you

🖤🥚 MEET EGGBERT — THE GOOD EGG!

Hi, I’m Eggbert! I’m a handsome solid-black cat with a soft heart, a calm personality, and the same easygoing charm as my pals Bert and Ernie.

I enjoy people, get along well with other cats, and believe the ideal day consists of a little affection, a cozy place to lounge, and absolutely no unnecessary drama.

My start at the shelter was a little unusual. One morning, staff found me abandoned in a soft carrier on the counter while they were cleaning. Not exactly the grand entrance I would have chosen, but I haven’t let it change my sweet nature!

I’m a friendly, affectionate guy ready to trade that unexpected beginning for a home where I can feel safe, loved, and settled for good.

Could I be the missing piece of your family? I promise I’m a pretty good Eggbert. 🖤🐾

Blue has never met a stranger—only friends he hasn't said hello to yet!

This energetic Blue Heeler mix greets everyone like they're his long-lost best friend. New face? BEST FRIEND. Familiar face? ALSO BEST FRIEND. Personal space? Well, we're still working on that.

Blue is an active guy who loves having something to do. Walks, games, exploring, or just tagging along with his favourite people—he's all in! He's full of energy, overflowing with affection, and always ready to be part of the action.

Blue needs an active home that can keep his body moving and his clever mind busy. Give him adventures, attention, and a family to love, and you'll have one very happy Heeler!

🖤🐾 Meet Spike — Retired from the Nonsense

Well hello there. I’m Spike, a senior gentleman, and at my age, I’ve earned the right to be a little particular about things.

New people? I’ll get back to you.
New situations? Let me sleep on it.
All that excitement? You kids have fun. I’ll be over here.

I came in from west of Unity with my buddy Lucky, who seems to think every day is a social event. Me? I prefer to sit back, observe, and make sure everyone passes inspection before I decide they’re worth my time.

But underneath this old-man attitude is a gentle, loyal companion who enjoys calm company and sticking close to his favourite people. And while I may be selective about humans, I absolutely love other dogs! I also appear to be nonreactive to cats, though proper introductions are always important.

In my golden years, I’m looking for a patient person, a peaceful home, and somewhere comfortable to enjoy my many naps. Think you have room for a distinguished old gentleman like me? Just don’t rush me. I didn’t get this wise overnight. 🖤

Meet Dusk — A Sensitive Girl Looking for Her People 🤎🐾

Dusk is a beautiful dark brindle girl who has come a long way since arriving at the shelter. When she first came to us, she was very frightened and unsure of her surroundings, but with time and patience, she has become much calmer and more comfortable.

Dusk is a sensitive girl who can be cautious around certain people and situations. She has shown some protective behaviour toward the women she bonds with and can become uncomfortable when she feels someone is approaching them in a way she doesn’t trust. Because of this, we’re looking for an experienced home that understands canine body language and is willing to give Dusk the structure, patience, and guidance she needs.

We would also love to see her new family be open to working with a qualified professional if needed. Having the right support can help Dusk and her people better understand each other and continue building her confidence in a safe, positive way.

She does wonderfully with other dogs and gains a lot of confidence from having canine friends around. A calm, compatible dog in her new home could be a wonderful companion for her.

Dusk would do best in a quiet, adult-only home without children or babies. She needs people who will respect her boundaries, allow her time to settle in, and continue helping her build confidence.

Dusk has already shown us how much she can change when given time and patience. Now she just needs the right person to help her keep moving forward. 🤎

Meet Elsie — No Touchy… Yet! 🤎🐱

Elsie is a beautiful brown-and-white tabby Domestic Long Hair who is still figuring out this whole “people” thing. And right now, her official policy is pretty simple: no touchy!

Elsie came to us as one of 33 cats from a hoarding situation. Like many of the cats from her group, she was nervous and unsure when she first arrived. She’s slowly getting used to people and learning that human attention doesn’t have to be scary, but she still needs time and patience to feel completely comfortable.

When Elsie arrived, her beautiful long coat was severely matted, so she needed to be shaved during her spay to remove the mats and give her some much-needed relief. Her fluffy coat will grow back with time, but for now, she’s rocking a much more practical look!

Elsie is looking for someone who understands that trust doesn’t happen overnight. She may not be ready for cuddles or pets just yet, but she is making progress. With patience, gentle interactions, and plenty of time, we’re hopeful that Elsie will continue discovering that people can actually be pretty great. 🤎

For now, she’s taking things one little step at a time—and that’s perfectly okay.

Meet Connie — She Needs to Know Everything! 🖤🐱

Connie is a beautiful black Domestic Shorthair with one very important rule: if something is happening, she needs to know about it!

Connie came to us as one of 33 cats from a hoarding situation. Like the others in her group, she was nervous when she first arrived and needed some time to adjust. These days, though, you’d hardly know it!

Connie has blossomed into a friendly, outgoing girl who absolutely loves people and other cats. She is curious, social, and determined to be involved in everyone’s business at all times.

A person is visiting? Connie’s there.
Another cat is doing something interesting? Connie’s watching.
Something is happening across the room? Connie is already on her way. 😂

She clearly believes that being part of the action is where she belongs, and honestly, she may have a point.

After such a big change in her life, Connie is ready for a home where she can continue showing off her confident, social personality—and where her new family won’t mind having a little black shadow following them around. 🖤
