The SAA was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Richard Barnsley. A former board member, and inductee into the Auction Era Hall of Honor, Richard was a fixture at Canadian Western Agribition for many years, where he entertained school kids and adults alike with his version of the Auctioneers Song. It seems fitting that we celebrate his life during the week that Agribition is presented in Regina.

Richard ran his own auction company, and then worked for others, most recently with Mack Auctions of Estevan. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Ann, and their family.

AGRIBITION AGRI-ED AUCTION SALES!

The annual Canadian Western Agribition will be held in late November, in Regina. If you are planning to attend, and would like to volunteer at the Agri-Ed Auctions: they will be held twice daily at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday, November 25 to November 29, at the Pavilion on the Agribition site. Grand Champion bidder caps will be sold, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Agribition Scholarship fund. We thank Vice-President Kelly Clarke for once again spearheading the daily sales. The Association's board of directors will hold a meeting on December 3, 2024 in Saskatoon. Discussion will occur and details will be finalized for the upcoming AGM and Convention, to be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, via TEAMS on-line meeting. Members are encouraged to attend by registering in advance at [email protected]. Details and an invitation to join the virtual meeting will be forwarded via email.

An online fundraiser auction will be held in conjunction with the AGM, and members are encouraged to donate an item to the sale. For more information, contact the SAA office at 306-441-2265, or [email protected].

The SAA was represented strongly at the recent celebration of life for the late Barrie Jung on May 10, 2024 in Melfort. Barrie held many executive positions on the Board of Directors, and the Board of Trustees of the Association. A good number of auctioneers, some Association members, were in attendance. They included Bruce and Deb Schapansky (Barrie's employers and friends), SAA President Jamie Moore and Paul Moore; Past Presidents Des Plewman, Doug McConnell, Larry Buchinski (and his wife Correen), as well as Kelly Clarke, Jason LeBlanc, Brian Hadland, and Lorn Korpanitski. I'm sure there were more that I missed. It was an excellent tribute to a great man. He will be sorely missed. An obituary can be accessed through Fedusiak Funeral Chapel's website. Our sincere condolences are extended to the family of Barrie Jung. A past President of the SAA, Barrie fought a hard battle, passing away April 25. Holding many executive positions on the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees, Barrie was inducted into the Auction Era Hall of Honor at the recent SAA convention and AGM, held this past January. Rest in peace, good friend.

The 50th Anniversary Convention, AGM and Auction Era Induction of the Association was held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 in North Battleford, SK. The event, held at the Western Development Museum saw 70 members and guests attend to witness three deserving individuals inducted into the Hall of Honor. As well, numerous Past presidents were in attendance, and recognized for their service to the Association.
