Good Afternoon Fellow Comrades and Community Members.
What a great day out there.
I am a bit early today with my blog, but my internet is not working that great today so hopefully I will get this done before it crashes again.
A bit of War history before I get into the events happening at the Legion.
On June 14, 1940, German troops occupied Paris following the fall or France. The same day, the N***s opened Auschwitz concentration camp in occupied Poland, delivering the first transport of 728 Polish political prisoners.
On June 6, 1944: Allied forces launched the D-Day invasion, landing on the beaches of Normandy, France, to liberate Western Europe from N**i Occupation.
On June 12, 1942: Anne Frank made her very first diary entry, just after her 13th birthday documenting her time in hiding in Amsterdam.
On June 22, 1941: N**i Germany launched Operation Barbarossa, the massive invasion of the Soviet Union.
LEST WE FORGET
Now on to what's happening at our Legion:
Last evening we had a great turnout for our Yuk Yuk's Comedy Night. From the comments as people were leaving at the end of the show, it was a great success. Some even thanked us for hosting the evening, saying it was great to see this caliper of entertainment in our area and not having to travel to the city to enjoy it. If you weren;t there you missed a fantastic show.
Our next General meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 17th at 7 pm. I hope to see some new applications for approval. Membership for new members is still free for the rest of 2026 as part of our 100th Anniversary celebrations. Remember, you dont have to be a Veteran to join.
Our kitchen will be open and serving up our amazing fish and chips from 5 til 7 on Friday, June 19th. Last call is at 6:45. Our Volunteers are ready to serve you up some awesome meals. Please remember, we are not a full serve restaurant, and our volunteers are not paid to work every Friday evening, they are giving up their time so you can have a break from having to cook dinner on Friday evening. So please treat them with respect and be kind.
Our Brunch will be served up from 9 til 11:30 on Saturday, June 20th. Lisa cooks up some great brunch items and our volunteers are alway there to serve it up and keep the coffee flowing. I hope to see you all there.
Dont forget to bring a non perishable food item along when you attend an event at our legion. Our donation box is just inside the door. Our Veterans Community Pantry appreciates each and every donation. Remember these veterans were there for us when we needed them, now lets be there for them.
Our monthly Veterans Coffee and Chat will take place on Wednesday, June 24th at 10 am. This is open to all Veterans, serving and retired, as well as retired and serving RCMP. So why not drop in and enjoy a coffee or tea and some breakfast pastries on us. We would love to see you there. Our last one was awesome, and we hope to see some new faces on the 24th.
Our Big Celebration weekend is coming up soon. On Friday, June 26th we will be hosting the recipients and their families as we present them with their Peacekeeping Certificates in recognition for their time spent on peacekeeping missions with the United Nations. There will be 7 of these certificates presented and I look forward to the evening. The event is by invitation only and will begin at 4:30 with a short reception followed by the presentation ceremony at 5pm. There will be a cold plate dinner served immediately following the presentations. These Certificates have been a long time coming to these brave men and it is the Hants North Legion's honour to get to finally put them in their hands.
To continue with our celebrations we will be having our Grand Opening of our Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, June 27th. This is open to all who would like to attend. The Ceremony begins at 11am with the Official Opening and Ribbon cutting along with the presentation of a few awards. Immediately following we will be hosting a free barbeque followed by the cutting of our 100th Anniversary Cake at 1pm to mark 100 years of The Royal Canadian Legion in Canada. The day will continue with activities for the kiddies with a bouncey tent and games. Throught the afternoon there will be a Vendor Craft Market and Open House in the Legion. The Legion will close at 5pm while we get set up for our dance. The DJ will begin at 8pm. This Dance is a 19+ event. There will be a cash bar with Happy Hour Prices all evening. Please no outside food or drink. All activities throughout the day are free of charge. So please, come out and celebrate with us.
Max and the Boys will be back on stage on Sunday , June 28th. There will be a shared lunch and a 50/50 draw. So gather up your family and friends and come on down to the legion for an afternoon of great music and dancing.
A reminder to those who have loved ones banners to be installed, you need to drop them into the legion and pay for your brackets so we can get them installed before the Celebration Weekend.
I want to send a huge thank you to all individuals, businesses, Fire Departments and community organizations who have sponsored the poles that the Veterans Banners are displayed on. Each and every one of these poles have been generously paid for by these awesome members or our community. We can't thank you enough.
We still have space for 6 more banners if you are interested in having one placed for your family member. If you are interested in a space, you need to let Lisa or I know so we can reserve one for you. Once they are gone there will be no more space.
If you have questions regarding any of our events or need info on how to become a member of this great organization, you can contact the legion at 369-2332.
Thats it for this week folks. Stay safe and healthy, and get out and enjoy the sunshine.
Yours in Comradeship
