Yesterday, we came together for our Community Circle: Crafting & Conversation in honour of Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

Hosted at Rose of Sharon, our valued community partner, the afternoon was filled with creativity, learning, and meaningful conversations.

Through dot art and storytelling, Métis Elder and storyteller Kathy Morgan shared her knowledge and experiences, helping us learn more about Métis history and culture.

A heartfelt thank you to Kathy for sharing her teachings with us, to Rose of Sharon for welcoming us into their space, and to everyone who joined us. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, create, and connect as a community.

Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 4–10, 2026)
This Mental Illness Awareness Week, we recognize the experiences of living with mental illness and the importance of ensuring that mental health and substance use health are treated with the same priority as physical health.
This year’s theme, “Equal Health. Fair Funding. No Exceptions.”, calls attention to the gaps that continue to make mental health care difficult to access and the need for meaningful investment in accessible and equitable supports.
At Women’s Support Network, we recognize that mental health is deeply connected to safety, well-being, and the experiences people carry with them. Creating space for understanding, reducing stigma, and making our services more accessible are all part of building healthier and safer communities.
This week, we invite our community to listen, learn, challenge the stigma, and continue advocating for mental health care that is accessible and open to everyone.

This Women's History Month, we honour the stories, experiences, and contributions of women in all their diversity. We recognize the journeys that have shaped generations, the voices that continue to create change despite the loud voices of violence and inequality, and the work that remains ahead.

At Women's Support Network of York Region, we remain committed to fostering a community where every woman and girl is valued, heard, supported, and able to live free from violence.

Today we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. We remember the survivors of the Residential Schools, their families and communities. Please use today and everyday as an opportunity to learn about Indigenous history and ongoing realities of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Reconciliation requires more than remembrance. It asks us to listen, learn, unlearn, reflect, and recognize our responsibilities to continue our work beyond September 30🧡

In acknowledgement of CAW 2026, WSN ran a campgain at their recent youth outreach this week! Over the past 4 days we reached over 200 youth in Vaughn, Thornhill, Nobleton and Georgina, engaging youth on consent education through the simple prompt of "What does consent mean to you?". ✏️ 📖 💚

We were pleasantly surprised to know that majority of the youth we interacted with know what consent is, however, there is a lot of work to be done. At WSN we commit to continued consent education as a preventative measure in preventing youth dating violence, gender based violence and sexual violence!

Thank you to our local libraries for your continued support in our Back to School Youth Outreach initiatives!💚

Let’s talk about Consent 🔍

There are many myths about what consent looks like and understanding the facts is an important part of creating relationships and spaces where everyone’s boundaries are respected.

Consent is clear, freely given, informed, specific, and reversible. It can be withdrawn at any time, and it’s never assumed based on someone’s clothing, relationship status, past experiences, or silence.

WSN acknowledges Consent Awareness Week 2026! With only 45% of Canadians knowing the meaning of consent (Canada Womens Foundation, 2026), it is imperative that we continue to educate York Region on consent education.
