BridgeNorth Led by survivors for survivors, BridgeNorth exists to end s*x trafficking in Canada.

Led by survivors for survivors, BridgeNorth is a charitable organization that exists to end s*x trafficking in Canada. We provide direct service to individuals and families impacted by s*x trafficking, create public education and awareness that trains the public and professionals to recognize, prevent, and address s*x trafficking, and we advocate on behalf of trafficked persons for systemic change

. We are trusted experts and advisors who work with community partners, educators, public service sectors, and leaders at all levels of government to make this vision a reality.

Often, young people who experience s*xual exploitation have been manipulated into believing that what has happened to them was their choice or their fault. Many of those we serve do not realize they are victims.

This is why education matters. Sometimes, learning about healthy relationships and warning signs can help a young person put words to experiences they never understood before.

To help us continue creating spaces where young people can learn and heal, please donate today at BridgeNorth.org đź’ś

Many survivors face barriers to employment after experiencing exploitation. Having experienced interrupted education, unstable housing, trauma, isolation, and a lack of safe support systems can make securing and maintaining employment incredibly difficult. Our new program, Elevate was created to address these challenges.

Through a structured program that mirrors a professional work environment, participants will build practical workplace skills, develop confidence, participate in relevant trainings, and work toward long-term independence and prosperity.

We are thankful to Children, Community and Social Services | Services à l’enfance et Services sociaux et communautaires (MCCSS) for recognizing the importance of this work and making Elevate possible through the Women’s Economic Leadership and Legacy (WELL) Fund. This investment will help survivors access the support and opportunities they need to build brighter futures.

Thank you to MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy and Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity, the Honorable Charmaine Williams for inviting us to attend the announcement of this new funding to speak about Elevate.

Where and how human trafficking happens is often misunderstood. Popular movies like Taken with Liam Neeson paint a false picture of this crime.

The truth is, Human Trafficking is happening in Canada, and most instances involve Canadian perpetrators and Canadian victims. While there are different forms of human trafficking, most which occur in Canada, we know that many instances of this crime are s*x trafficking, and that the average age victims are first lured and groomed is just 13. Ontario is a hub.

BridgeNorth's mission is to end s*xual exploitation in Canada. Raising awareness about the reality of this crime helps ensure organizations like ours receive the support and attention we need to serve all those who need us and protect those vulnerable.

Today is Red Dress Day, a day to honour, remember, and raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people in Canada.

In Canada, Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people are vastly overrepresented among those who experience violence, including s*xual exploitation and trafficking. At BridgeNorth, we see how vulnerability is shaped long before exploitation happens. For Indigenous women and youth, that includes the ongoing impacts of systemic inequities cause by colonization, and a lack of safe, consistent support that addresses those inequities.

At BridgeNorth, we stand with Indigenous communities and commit to continuing to learn, listen, and do everything we can to ensure our organization is supporting those vulnerable in our communities.

For young people, the internet can be an awesome place to connect with friends, share content about their lives, and learn new things.

By taking a few measures to ensure that the bad actors who also exist online cannot access and interact with youth, social media can be a much safer space for young people to spend time!

Thanks to .schools for inviting us to set up a booth at their parent engagement night!

Connecting with caregivers is a very important part of our prevention work. The conversations parents have at home with their youth, and the trust and awareness they build in doing so can make all the difference when it comes to recognizing risk and preventing harm.

Thank you to the York Region District School Board for creating space for these kinds of connections!
