If you have seasonal allergies, you’ve probably noticed that it’s peak pollen season! 🌳🌼

Our Lake Monitoring Team recently observed a striking yellow layer of pollen on the surface of Lake Simcoe. While it may resemble an algae bloom or pollution, it’s actually wind-blown tree pollen that has settled on the water.

Being able to distinguish pollen from other substances is an important part of monitoring Lake Simcoe’s health. That’s why our team carefully identifies and documents these natural events, both on the water and under the microscope.

There's still time to help shape the future of the New Scanlon Creek Nature Centre! 🌿

Our community is already imagining incredible possibilities:

"This is going to be a wonderful space! The opportunities for enhanced educational programming and community engagement events will be fantastic."

"Excited about the centre both as a visitor and potentially as a business group that could regularly meet there."

"It needs to showcase local art emphasizing nature and positive impact."

And our youngest visitors are dreaming big too:

"Using treasure maps, doing nature art, and looking for wildlife."
"Going on scavenger hunts and exploring the creek."
"Nature treasure hunts, playing at the discovery garden, and finding wildlife."

As we plan the next chapter, we want to hear from YOU. What would make the New Nature Centre a place you'll want to visit, learn, explore, and connect?

Take a few minutes to complete the survey and help bring this vision to life.

Happy World Environment Day! 🌎

The natural spaces we enjoy today — our lakes, forests, wetlands, and trails — are worth protecting for the generations that follow.

Every action we take to care for the environment helps ensure that today's children can grow up exploring these places, making memories outdoors, and connecting with nature just as many of us have.

This World Environment Day, we're reminded that protecting the environment isn't just about today, it's about preserving it for tomorrow.

Consultation for the Comprehensive Stewardship Planning process is now complete. Over the past months, we connected with the community through public open houses, the 'Have Your Say' platform, presentations to the Town of Georgina Agricultural Advisory Committee, door-to-door conversations with neighbouring properties, social media, and discussions with our Advisory Committee and leadership groups across the organization.

These efforts resulted in approximately 50 open house attendees, 110 survey responses through the Have Your Say platform, and more than 35,000 social media views and engagements.
Using what we heard throughout the process, we’ve redrawn the activities maps to better reflect the community’s wants, needs, and priorities. Thank you for helping shape the future of this space with us.

At today's Source Protection Authority meeting we recognized outgoing Source Protection Committee Chair, Lynn Dollin. First as a Councillor and now as Mayor in Innisfil, Mayor Dollin has led the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Committee for nearly 20 years, bringing diverse voices together and guiding consensus on decisions that help keep our source protection region’s source water safe. Today, we celebrate Mayor Dollin's remarkable leadership, her ability to unite and inspire, and her lasting legacy in protecting our source water for generations.

On behalf of our Source Protection Authority, we thank Mayor Dollin for her dedication and many years of exemplary leadership.

Stewardship is happening all around us.

Across the watershed, people are taking action every day—often quietly, and without recognition.

💧 Some protect water.
🌿 Some restore habitat.
🤝 Some strengthen their communities.

We’ve been sharing just a few of the many ways people are making a difference across the Lake Simcoe watershed.

Do you know someone who should be recognized?

Nominations for the Conservation Awards are open until June 5.
