Whether you're paving, or roofing, or up in the scaffolding, you know it's hot out there and every construction worker should know their rights. Employers have an obligation to protect workers from the heat. We're calling for real measures to keep workers safe in these conditions. Our Executive Director, Brynn Bourke, spoke about the need for better provisions in the Vancouver Sun.

"Climate change is changing the environment where construction workers are working, and we need to make sure that everyone has the tools to keep workers safe."

Last week, the BC Building Trades Indigenous Relations Working Group awarded its inaugural Indigenous Apprentice Bursaries. This year’s recipients are Meagan Molloy, a level 2 apprentice with Sheet Metal Workers 280, and Aaron Naziel, a level 4 plumbing apprentice with UA 170. The BC Building Trades is thrilled to be able to support these two apprentices as they continue on the path to receiving their Red Seals.

Our members have been working on the early construction works of the Massey Tunnel Replacement. This project will provide family-sustaining jobs for thousands of skilled trades workers and an essential new crossing for people and businesses across the region. The retendering of the final construction phase of the project will provide an opportunity for local contractors to participate in building this critical project and maximize the benefits to local communities.
