This means that RiverFest 2021 may feel a little different from previous years, but rest assured that our enthusiastic staff and volunteers is committed to providing you with a memorable experience with the FRDC! World Rivers Day, which coincides with BC Rivers Day takes place in over 70 countries throughout the world. Established in 1980, BC Rivers Day is a province-wide event that attracts hundreds of thousands of people to more than 100 local events each year. The success of this event in British Columbia led to the establishment of World Rivers Day in 2005, and on the last weekend of September, countries worldwide will come together to celebrate the many values of our waterways. In 2003, the Fraser River Discovery Centre hosted its first festival on the New Westminster riverfront in honour of the Fraser River. Since its inception, the festival has continued to grow steadily with new and exciting components that highlight and celebrate the environmental, economic and socio-cultural importance of the Fraser River.
