David Rice spent over three decades at the heart of BC's labour movement. He was a researcher for the province's first NDP government, the (effective) chief of staff at the BC Federation of Labour during Operation Solidarity, and he transformed the Canadian Labour Congress - Congrès du travail du Canada Winter School into a landmark institution for union education.

This candid oral history interview with volunteer Rod Mickleburgh is the newest addition to our collection, published with the help of volunteer editor Kevin Chung.

This interview contains a homophobic slur, quoted within a historical context. At the 1978 BCFed convention, Rice was heckled with a slur while speaking in support of a resolution to include gay rights protections in collective agreements.
