📚 When we invest in learning, we invest in Rotorua’s future.

September is Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month - a reminder that education comes in many forms.

It’s reading and writing.
It’s learning a trade. 🛠️
It’s gaining confidence, practical skills and the opportunity to build a future.

Here in Rotorua, Rotary Rotorua North believes in backing our rangatahi and helping create opportunities for them to learn, grow and succeed.

That’s reflected in initiatives such as our Apprentice Awards, where we recognise local apprentices who are putting in the mahi, developing valuable skills and building careers that will strengthen our community for years to come. 👏

Because supporting education isn’t only about what happens inside a classroom.

It’s about giving people the tools, encouragement and opportunities they need to take their next step. 💙

Strong learners. Strong futures. Stronger communities.

Saturday morning plan sorted? ☕🛍️🏉

The Kuirau Park Saturday Market is on again tomorrow morning, and with a few showers possible and the wetter weather looking more likely later in the day, it’s a good one to get down early and make the most of the morning. 🌦️

Grab a hot coffee, have some breakfast, wander the stalls and support the people who get up early every Saturday to bring their kai, produce and goodies to Kuirau Park. ❤️

And with the All Blacks taking on South Africa Sunday morning, there’s another reason to grab some extra food for whanau while watching. 🏉🇳🇿

Stock up on some extra goodies for the game:

🍗 Hot kai and takeaway favourites
🥟 Dumplings and other savoury treats
🍩 Donuts and sweet treats
🍊 Fresh fruit and produce
🥬 Watercress and fresh greens
☕ Coffee for Saturday morning
🍿 Snacks for later
…and plenty more to discover around the market.

Think of it as breakfast now + game food sorted for later. 😄

📍 Kuirau Park, Rotorua
⏰ Saturday | 7am–1pm

Come down early, fill a bag or two, support our stallholders and get yourself sorted for a big weekend. 👋

Want to see what community action actually looks like? 👀

Rotary Rotorua North is a group of local people passionate about helping others and strengthening Rotorua. 💙

One of our longest-running projects is the Kuirau Saturday Morning Market, which has been operating for 35 years. Profits go back into the community, supporting initiatives such as the Apprentice Tool Grant 🛠️ and investing in our rangatahi educational futures. 🎓

That’s Rotary in action, people combining their time, skills, and connections to make useful things happen. 🤝

If you’re curious, come and see it firsthand.

Message us for an invite and meet the people behind the projects.

That fresh morning air, hot coffee in hand, and the market starting to wake up… hard to beat 👌

It's been a busy few months behind the scenes as we work towards fundraising the last remaining funds to get a new skatepark built in Rotorua.

We have around $1 million fundraised towards the the new skatepark, which depending on how the park is built (in stages or all at once) is estimated to cost between $3.5 and $5m to build.

We have recently submitted funding applications for the rest of the money needed. We will hear back over the next couple months on if this is sucessful.

Once we hear back from funders, we will share with the community our concept skartepark designs for final feedback before creating a detailed design to be built.

We're currently in talks with skatepark builders to understand their availability and ability to build the skatepark over the next couple years.

We're working closely with the Rotorua Lakes Council on administrative matters around consenting, land use, funding and all sorts of matters!

We're keeping Sport Bay of Plenty up to date as we progress the plan.

We're also working with Pukeroa Oruwhata, who work with the Council with managing gifted landed, as Ngati Whakaue are mana whenua for the land we intend to build the skatepark on.

There's many tasks going on behind the scenes and we're working hard to make a desperately needed new skatepark for Rotorua a reality.

Check out our website for more info.

Ever thought, “I’d like to do more for Rotorua… I’m just not sure where I’d fit in”?

You’re probably not alone.

Most people we’d love to see involved with Rotary are already busy. They have businesses to run, families, careers, commitments, and usually a few other things competing for their time.

That’s exactly why Rotary works best as a group.

You don’t have to take on a whole community project by yourself. You can bring what you already have: experience, ideas, practical skills, contacts, energy, or simply a willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in.

At Rotary Rotorua North, that can mean helping with the Kuirau Park Saturday Market, supporting local initiatives, encouraging young people and apprentices, cleaning up our environment, or working alongside other Rotorua people who simply want to make useful things happen.

If you’ve ever wondered whether Rotary might suit you, message us for an invite and see for yourself what it’s actually like. No hard sell.

If you had a few hours to put towards something worthwhile in Rotorua, what sort of project would you enjoy being part of?

You might know the Rotary name. But would you recognise today’s Rotary?💭

For some people, the picture that comes to mind is meetings, formality and something their parents’ generation belonged to.

The reality can look very different.

Rotary Rotorua North is made up of local people putting their experience, skills and connections to practical use, whether that’s through the Kuirau Park Saturday Market, supporting young people, recognising local apprentices or getting behind community projects. 🫂

And here’s the important part:

You don’t need endless spare time.

You don’t need to know someone already.

And you certainly don’t need to turn up with a résumé of community service.

Sometimes the first step is simply meeting a few people and seeing whether it feels like your kind of crowd.

If you’re curious, message us. We’re happy to tell you what a typical Rotary Rotorua North evening is actually like 👍.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “Rotary”?

**Tomorrow’s looking like a pretty good morning for the market! ☕🛍️**

A mild Rotorua winter morning, temperatures heading towards **15–16°C**, plenty to browse, and only the possibility of the odd light shower.

Sounds like a good excuse to get out of the house. 😄

Grab a coffee or something tasty, wander the stalls, have a yarn with the stallholders and see what catches your eye.

And if a few drops happen to fall? Nothing a jacket can’t handle. 🌦️

Think you know what Rotary is? You might be surprised. 👀

It’s easy to picture Rotary as meetings, formalities and something for “other people”.

But Rotary Rotorua North is also about local people using their experience, skills and connections to help good things happen around Rotorua.

From the Kuirau Park Saturday Market to supporting young people, recognising local apprentices and backing community initiatives, there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes than most people realise.

And you don’t have to decide whether Rotary is “for you” before walking through the door.

☕ Come along one Wednesday.
Meet some people. Hear what’s happening. Ask a few questions.

Then decide for yourself.

🌙 Friday night reminder, Rotorua!

Tomorrow morning it’s on again, Rotary Rotorua North’s Kuirau Park Saturday Market 🙌

And yes… it’s going to be a **proper cold start** tomorrow:

🥶 Low of -2°C
🌥️ Partly cloudy
🧥 Definitely rugged-up weather!

So if ever there was a morning for:

☕ Hot barista coffee
🍳 A warm breakfast
🥟 Hot kai straight off the grill
🛍️ A good wander through the stalls

…this is it 😄

Let’s be honest, when it’s -2 degrees, coffee isn’t just a drink… it’s emotional support 😂

So throw on the beanie, zip up the jacket, and come down to the market for some warmth, great food, local goodies, and a proper Rotorua Saturday morning vibe.
