North Fraser Metis Association North Fraser Metis Association, a Registered Charity Organization Check out our upcoming events page to see what is coming up next!

Our organization is a non profit indigenous community that organizes cultural and historical activities and programs for Metis people every year. As on organization, we are often a first point of contact for Indigenous people seeking services and supports. To this end, we are working to build a continuum of care for people from birth to death and welcome feedback and guidance from our members on

new programs and new roads we should take. Our nonprofit organization has heard and recognized the biggest concerns of our communities and is willing to find ways to strengthen the bonds with our indigenous family in all regions of BC; to reconnect in a world that is exceedingly disconnected. Not only that, but we also heard and that depression and anxiety are very real and can be debilitating for some especially in the times of pandemic. We also recognized that finances and budgets can feel overwhelming at a times for those who are struggling in finding a job. Thus, it is our hope to receive grants and supports to address some of the key issues that we all have in common. We are eager to help, educate, support, provide, guidance, and pass through our culture and traditions in many ways to our indigenous family and to the next generation to be better and stronger than we are now. Our Mission:

Above all, to preserve our natural resources, cultural heritage, and Indigenous rights for the benefit of our children and the generation to follow
To build a community for our Members
To promote the health of our Members
To advance the cultural, economic, political, and social interests of our Members and Métis Nation
To educate our Members and the public about the history, culture, and identity of the Métis Nation
To work with colonial governments, Indigenous governments, and other bodies for the benefit of our Members and the Métis Nation

In pursuit of those goals, the directors and community volunteers run several events per year. These events vary in scope and focus but are all targeted to ensuring the vibrancy and growth of our community. Some recent events we have run include jigging workshops, history and culture education events, and networking and community building gatherings for Métis families.

A STEPS Success Story featuring MNBC Citizen and STEPS student, Olivia Moore.

“While I am a long way away from complete success in my field of study, through the helpful support of MNBC, I have been honoured to find opportunities and grow my passion within science as a university student.

I began university hoping to pursue a future career in healthcare and instead fell in love with understanding chemistry and biology in the world around us. While medicine remains a future goal of mine, I've opened my mind to different areas of job opportunity, such as research and teaching. In my eyes, this has been a success as I've been able to meet new people within our community who have encouraged me to join new experiences, such as volunteering at the local hospital and attending seminars of women in science and Indigenous women in health care.

I hope that with my future success, I can give back to the smaller communities through healthcare or research and encourage other Métis individuals to seek offered support. This is a passion of mine because if there's anything I've learned, it is that science thrives with more diversity.”
