The New Waterford Post Office was first opened in 1907 as the Barrachois Rural Post Office. The larger post office was built in 1936 and in 1956, it had almost doubled in size. The major renovations allowed the post office to be better equipped for the needs of a growing population, representing the town's upward development. In 1956, the letter courier server had also begun.

The New Waterford Post Office was demolished in 1991 and a Tim Hortons now stands in its place.

The New Waterford Fire Department started in the summer of 1915, serving our community for approximately 110 years. They began as a volunteer organization and remains as an unpaid department with a few full time staff members.

The R.S. Ripley was New Waterfords original fire engine, purchased in 1916. When the volunteer fire department first formed, instead of using horse drawn steam powered pumpers they quickly transitioned to motorized equipment. The engine was named after the mayor at the time, R.S. Ripley.

The new machine arrived in 1917 from LaFrance factory in Ontario. It costed $13,000.
