Kids, Families and Professionals were betrayed three years ago by the Provincial Government, and the government has not done enough to right that wrong. In three years only 600 children have been pulled of the waitlist to access core services. There are over 50,000 kids waiting. When the PCs took office it was only 23,000.

We have been told by 3 different ministers in as many years, that a world class program is coming. Their self imposed deadlines for children to receive funding for therapy have been pushed back countless times. Imagine this government wanted to change the elementary school curriculum and structure. So they stopped letting kids start kindergarten for more than 3 years. It wouldn’t be acceptable to you, and waiting for funding isn’t acceptable to the 50,000 kids & youth waiting. It isn’t a luxury- it’s a need.

It’s important to know that some Children and Families in our area have been waiting since 2015 for comprehensive therapy. Families like mine, who can, pay thousands of dollars monthly in therapy costs for their children. Those who can’t, wait in crisis. This isn’t my Ontario.

I encourage everyone to let Minister Fullerton and Premier Ford know that Ontario Autism Program delays are not acceptable.

The provincial government has set the OAP (Ontario Autism Program) budget at $600 million for the year.
