Dear One Light Diversity Centre,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Hanzala, and I moved to New Liskeard approximately three years ago. I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the invaluable support your organization has provided in helping me settle into this new community.

One Light Diversity Centre played a pivotal role in assisting me in finding accommodation and securing employment. Your dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion has had a truly positive impact on my life. The guidance and support I received from your team made my transition to a new place significantly smoother and far less overwhelming.

I deeply appreciate the efforts One Light Diversity puts into creating a welcoming and supportive environment for newcomers. Your commitment to making a meaningful difference is clearly reflected in the practical assistance I experienced firsthand.

One Light brought together the Muslim faith followers our community during its first EID in 2023. Once again, thank you for your continued support. I am truly grateful for the warmth and help I have received, and I look forward to contributing to and being part of this diverse and vibrant community.

Today, we are incredibly proud of Tammy and the New Liskeard Special Olympics team for hosting a symbolic Torch Run.

At One Light, we believe inclusion is more than a word- it is action. Every athlete deserves to be celebrated, every ability deserves to be recognized, and every individual deserves a community that cheers them on. Events like this bring people together across all backgrounds, ages, and abilities, reinforcing one of the most important lessons in building a strong community: sense of belonging! Many of our newcomers are participating today!

Thank you to Tammy, the OPP, volunteers, athletes, families, and supporters who continue to shine a light on courage, determination, and inclusion.

For newcomers looking for a Pride buddy:

We recognize that one of the barriers a lot of people face when it comes to Pride events is not wanting to go to a public event alone, and we get it!! The way that the q***r community is treated makes being visible a terrifying thing for some.

That being said, if you are willing to be someone's "Pride buddy" and help them feel safe at Pride, give this post a like, or even better, comment a little bit about yourself if you're comfortable!! If you need a buddy, scan through and reach out!! You may make a new friend or two!!
