We had another egg-citing morning cooking for our community fridge: breakfast sandwiches, zucchini fritters, and freshly sliced cantaloupes.

A dozen people came out unegg-spectedly and knocked it out of the park, eggs-actly the help we needed.

Special thanks also to those tending the NGRHS school garden for their eggs-tremely kind donations of additional produce they've been growing.

Eggs-quisite work by all, truly demonstrating what our community is made of.

It's Top-Up Tuesday and our Community Fridge has been re-filled with goodies: eggs, bread, melons, veggies and more. Thank you to all of our volunteers and neighbours who've graciously added to our stocks; seasonal produce is rolling in.

Well, we asked for your help and received it. On a sweltering midweek Wednesday morning, after a long weekend, a dozen people still came out to cook for community fridge. For which we are thankful.

They sang, they chopped, they laughed, they told stories, they learned and leaned in on one another. Community building while filling a serious gap on some local tables.

Some came to cook. Some came for company. Everyone left having contributed. Our amazing bunch made from scratch:

140 pesto pasta dinners with added seasonal roasted veggies, handmade chicken meatballs for about half, alongside 4 full pans of luscious, rhubarb-laden loaf.

Secret ingredient of the day: Balkan-style yogurt for the pesto. All done in easy enough steps that any newcomer to the kitchen can repeat at home later.

Plenty of roles for new volunteers still, both young and old. We have a lot of fun together for a good cause and would be glad of new friends to help.

On a bright and sunny Saturday morning, our determined, steadfast crew of neighbours, made a huge batch of Lunenburg-style hodge-podge and biscuits for the fridge. So glad to have these home grown favourites come to life in our community.

As we found out everyone has their own flair, flourish or family touch to the dish.

On a marvelous mid-summer Monday evening, our volunteers and some newly made friends joined in to make Shepherd's Pie and Apple Crisp. We managed to refill the community fridge tonight with a few smiles, hearty laughs and some swift work along the way.

Many thanks for making our first mid-month cookup of the summer a success. Next round will be at month’s end in two weeks, Saturday, July 25th, beginning at 9am; hope to see you there.

A Summer With Two Community Cookups in New Germany

The community has doubled its efforts and the 644 Revitalization Network is ever-working to double the results in food relief projects for our region and neighbours.

We're priviledged to host TWO community mass cook-up events for July 2026:

Monday, 13 July, 2026 – 4pm-8pm and our regular
Saturday, 25 July, 2026 – 9am-noon, last Saturday as per usual

So, if you're aiming to volunteer or lend a hand; bring a friend, neighbour, or willing guest from near or far away, come show us your stealth. Twice the opportunity to volunteer all summer long too.

We're all pitching in, having fun through personal and culinary stories. Each of us with a role in bringing a community-sized meal to fruition sharing our collective skills and good humour.

And we're off to a great market season, a hive of activity with a full line of vendors for this Friday. Forecasting 25C and partly sunny with live entertainment among the greenery.

Also in tandem with a mid-summer's eve clothing giveaway to those in need. Setup alongside over a dozen plus New Germany Farmers' Market vendors with the bounties of the county and beyond.

If you know someone who needs clothing or the simple joys of music, market, and nature consider offering them a lift to the market and/or lakeside retreat between 2-6pm.

Hope you all get out to enjoy the long, sunny summer days while we're at our peak. See you out in the sunshine.

This morning volunteers from across the county made food for the community fridge and what an amazing production it always is!

A chance to catch up with neighbours, swap family recipe favourites and bring communities closer helping those in need.

Together we made: Beef Burrito Bowls, Chock-Full-o-Veg Burrito Bowls, Sofrito, Basmati Rice and Beans, Granola Bake and more. A few ingredient packs along with new donations of cookies and pickles round out a very full fridge.

Thank you to our generous neighbours for their food donations, efforts and time on a Saturday morning.
