The Blewett Conservation Society is now the Blewett Community Society! This will more accurately reflect all the ways we are serving the Blewett community. Join us in having fun making things happen! The purposes of the new Society are to:

Connect Blewett residents and support community groups providing social, environmental and community services in Blewett. Lead the operation and maintenance for shared community assets, including the Morning Mountain skating rink and the Bedford Road community bulletin board. Organize and host community gathering events, such as garden tours, trail building, scavenger hunts and other recreational events. Collaborate and provide information with other initiatives, such as Fire Smart initiatives, Invasive w**d management, native plant projects, emergency preparedness activities and others. Encourage community connections, creativity and cooperation by helping neighbours to support each other. Represent Blewett residents on resource management issues, such as groundwater monitoring, watershed protection, recreational, crown land, agriculture, air quality, public health (mental and physical) issues, forestry and mining activities.

Morning Mountain Rink in Blewett Update:

The Blewett Community Society has secured funding for another year of creating and managing the Morning Mountain Skating Rink which is available for all community members to utilize and we are hopeful this year will bring us some colder weather than last year!
Due to warming temperatures we have submitted a proposal to the RDCK for permission to build a permanent covered concrete pad which would be open to the public year round and which would be conducive to deploying a roll out chiller during the winter to provide ice all winter long. Our current Board Members have an excellent combination of knowledge with regards to refrigeration and architecture and we feel capable of providing this service to our Area should this project move forward.
The RDCK has accepted our application and have voted to move forward with completing a necessary review to decide if they would like to support this project, after which point we would seek funding (outside of RDCK). We anticipate having a decision from them by spring of 2027. We have had a number of people reach out to us, keen to support this project which we are grateful for, in addition we are keen to work with the Cycling community to find a solution to sharing the land so that all user groups can enjoy Morning Mountain during all seasons. We have put a lot of effort into having the facilities on site to support a rink (electricity, water, storage and washrooms etc. and would love to continue to offer this gift to our community should our area desire to move forward with this project.
Should you be interested in this project please follow our page or send an email to [email protected] to be kept informed as we are assuming RDCK will conduct a public outreach/feedback portion of their review
