This is exciting news for the Greater Nelson region!

A documentary film series shot by Nelson filmmakers about the city’s annual Burger Month event has been picked up by Gem, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s digital streaming service.

Jeremy Grant, who grew up in Nelson and has always lived here despite international activity as a filmmaker, said the idea of a Burger Month documentary occurred to him almost two years ago. He pitched the idea to two local filmmaker friends, Carla Sinclair and Carlo Alcos, who supported the idea and who eventually have become the main camera people in the project.

You can read more about this terrific news and more about Jeremy’s outstanding career in an excellent story written by Nelson Star reporter Bill Metcalfe both at their website and in this week’s print edition.

Behind every successful local business is a team of dedicated people.

For 20 years, the team at Main Jet Motorsports has helped keep the Kootenays riding, exploring, and adventuring. Their knowledge, passion, and commitment to customer service have made them a trusted part of the Nelson business community.

As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we're recognizing not just the business, but the people who have helped shape its success over the years.

Congratulations to the entire Main Jet team on 20 years in business.

The countdown to Canada Day at Rotary Lakeside Park is on!

This event doesn’t happen without the kind sponsorship of local businesses who donate both money and time to bring the community together on July 1. One of those businesses is Bennett Family Real Estate. Karen & Chuck are terrific community supporters and here is what they have to say.

What does 20 years in business look like?

For Main Jet Motorsports, it looks like strong community connections, a passion for the outdoors, and two decades of helping customers make the most of life in the Kootenays.

Hear from Kevin and Aaron as they look back on the last 20 years, share some of the highlights, and reflect on what it means to be part of the Nelson business community.

Congratulations to the Main Jet team on this milestone, and thank you for 20 years of business in Nelson!

Strong businesses help build strong communities.

This year, the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce launched a Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) survey alongside targeted industry consultations to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing local businesses.

The goal is simple: ensure advocacy and economic development efforts are informed by real experiences, not assumptions.

The insights gathered help bring the voice of local business to decision-makers at the municipal, regional, provincial, and federal levels on issues that impact our community, from workforce availability and infrastructure to public safety and regulatory challenges.

When local businesses succeed, our entire community benefits. They create jobs, support local events, strengthen our economy, and help make the Greater Nelson area a vibrant place to live, work, and do business.

There are bigger Canada Day celebrations across the country. But there may not be many better ones.

Every July 1, Nelson’s Rotary Lakeside Park transforms into something that feels uniquely Canadian. Families spread blankets beneath towering trees. Children race between games and activities. Friends gather beside the lake. Music drifts through the park. The smell of barbecue fills the air. It’s the kind of scene that reminds us why small-town celebrations continue to hold such a special place in Canadian life.

This year, the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce is once again inviting residents and visitors to celebrate Canada’s birthday at one of the region’s most picturesque gathering places.

The Railtown Flats project at the foot of Baker Street is an exciting development that will bring 55 units of much-needed workforce housing to our community.

Community interest in this project is high and the Chamber appreciates all the input we have received to this point. To provide a little more depth for what the project is all about, we have prepared a frequently asked questions page on our website that will help clarify what the project is all about.

This is a living document and we'll continue to update when required over the coming months. You can find it here: https://www.discovernelson.com/news/railtown-housing-breaks-faq/
