Our Daily Bread Nelson, B.C. Nelson's hot meal program that is barrier free to all members of society. Hot lunch will be served from Monday to Friday between 12 PM and 12:50 PM.

Our Daily Bread is Nelson’s only hot lunch program that is barrier free to all members of society. Five days per week, from 8:15am to 1:00pm, ODB offers a hot nutritious meal in a safe and welcoming environment. Each day we serve an average of 50 to 70 people. Many of our guests at ODB have multiple barriers to self-sufficiency. Some of our guests are homeless and many are at risk of homelessness. The daily meal at ODB is often the only meal of their day. Our guests not only receive nutritional health, but also emotional support. Our guests are able to connect with one another and share their life experience. Many of our guests find support for childcare and problem solving from the other guests, volunteers and staff. One of the aims of ODB has been to support people in finding meaning in their lives and help them back into society. Volunteers in the kitchen learn skills that help build a resume. Some of our guests use the office to contact employers, landlords, and family members. Our telephone, internet, and fax machine are used by our patrons free of charge. Due to the increased number of attendants at Our Daily Bread, we have put a new policy in effect as of June 1st 2010. People are asked to donate $20 which gets them a meal card good for 22 meals. If they don’t have a meal card, they are asked to donate $5.00 to cover the cost of their meal. If people are not able to donate, there are some sponsorship opportunities available or locals to Nelson can volunteer to cover the cost of their meal. We are excited about the new policy because of the way the Nelson regulars have taken pride and ownership in the services provided. In fact, implementing this policy was largely due to their suggestions. If you would like to make a donation to Our Daily Bread, please visit our website which is in conjunction with our church at http://kootenaychristianfellowship.com/dat/

Those coming to ODB on Thursday mornings get the pleasure of meeting our dedicated Food Bank volunteer, Lin. More than just receiving food, guests at ODB get to stay and chat with Lin, talk about their day and make genuine connection.

At Our Daily Bread we treat everyone that walks through our doors as a unique individual who deserves the time of day. More than food, everyone needs connection and hope to sustain themselves and make meaningful positive change in their lives. We hope our Food Bank here at ODB can be a small part in that for everyone we meet!

To help supplement our growing budget, Our Daily Bread is now undergoing a summer fundraising campaign. If you have been a previous donor to us you may have already received our fundraising appeal in the mail.

Each year during these campaigns we like to highlight a key figure in ODB's operations and this year that is Amy! Amy comes to ODB each Thursday along with her worker, Kira, and Kira's sister, Lori. They help on the ticket table here and for everyone coming in that day the first thing they see is a warm smile from Amy.

At ODB we pride ourselves on being an inclusive environment where people are seen for their strengths and not their limitations. Although we are a "soup kitchen", ODB also isn't just about a hot meal, it's about what eating together represents: community, friendship, hope, and connection.

If you would like to support a place like ODB please consider donating so that we can maintain our operations.

Our Daily Bread has seen a dramatic rise in demand for our Thursday Food Bank program.. in just the first five months of this year alone we have distributed more food than we did in all of 2025.

Thanks to organizations like the Osprey Foundation we have been able to meet this growing demand and adapt to increasing circumstances. Thank you Osprey!

Cleaning out your pantry? ODB is now doing an ongoing food drive to help supplement our Food Bank program. Since starting in the Fall of 2024 our Food Bank here at Our Daily Bread has grown significantly in both offerings and the need we've seen.

To help ensure we can keep meeting the needs of Nelson's most vulnerable we are kindly asking for donations of non-perishable goods within best-before dates.
