Scouter Andrea Miller

Andrea has given over 14 years to our youth in every position in our group. She is always enthusiastic at adventures, always adds a creative flair and can always be counted on to have all the things that no one even thought to pack.

Andrea has worked tirelessly this past year being the driving force for our fundraising for our New Brunswick adventure.

In her role as Contact Scouter for both the Troop and Company she has worked hard to keep all families in the loop with the schedules and was the link between the Scouter team and families.

As Andrea prepares to retire we want to thank her for her many years of service and for mentoring our newer Scouters keeping our group on track.

Scouter Jason Bolton has been the steady, reassuring presence our Troop relied on all year. Whenever one of us couldn’t attend an adventure, Jason stepped in without hesitation, covering ratio and bringing calm confidence to every outing.

From mentoring youth with his woodworking tools to simply showing up as a caring, reliable, fun adult, Jason made every adventure better. As he takes his sabbatical and passes Akela to the next volunteer, we know both the Cub Pack and Troop will feel his absence. Thank you, Scouter Jason, for always being there when we needed you.

Scouter Dan Chamberlain is the quiet force who keeps our adventures alive. He works behind the scenes filling gaps that would have stopped our youth in their tracks, turning obstacles into opportunities with his playful spirit and endless creativity.

In our nine years Scouting together, Dan has made lemonade out of every lemon tossed our way. When our out‑of‑province Venturer adventure hit a transportation crisis, he didn’t hesitate — he volunteered to drive nearly 40 hours with seven chaotic teenagers and Laura and me keeping him company. He carried us through with patience, humour, and only a missing gas cap to mark the journey.

Dan has a heart of gold and a pride in our youth that shines in everything he does. Thank you, Dan, for always showing up, always believing in our kids, and always being the steady, joyful presence our Group depends on.

In recognition of your exceptional dedication and unwavering leadership as Group Commissioner. Michelle, you carry one of the most challenging and unseen roles in our Scout Group — guiding adult volunteers, upholding Scouts Canada policies, and ensuring our youth sections remain safe, supported, and compliant.

Your steady presence has helped us navigate difficult moments, stressful situations, and the many complexities of volunteer management. You work tirelessly to keep morale strong and prevent burnout, giving each Scouter what they need to succeed in their unpaid and often invisible roles.

Your commitment keeps our Group thriving, our volunteers motivated, and our youth growing. We know it isn’t all cheerful speeches and potlucks behind the scenes, and we deeply appreciate the heart and resilience you bring to this role.

Scouter David Baillie has turned his Girl‑Dad experience into a gift for our Troop, becoming the steady, compassionate presence our Scouts — especially our girls — needed. His dad jokes, advocacy, and gentle humour quickly wove themselves into the fabric of our Scouting family, creating moments of joy and memories that will stay with our youth for years.

David brings a profound sense of duty and respect, stepping in with support before anyone even asks. His wide range of skills makes every Outdoor Activity Skill session feel like an adventure rather than a lesson.

Thank you, David, for embracing the giggles, the chaos, and the teenage antics, and for making each youth feel seen, valued, and safe. You are already an incredible Troop Master, and the adventures you’ll lead in the coming year will shape our Troop in ways that matter.

For four years, Scouter Laura McCallum travelled from Kingston to be part of our Troop, becoming family from the moment she and Lily arrived. They brought humour, warmth, and a spark that made every meeting and every camp feel lighter and more joyful.

Laura is magic in any kitchen — stainless steel or campfire coals — turning tight budgets, dietary needs, and odd requests into meals that felt like celebrations. No youth ever feared going hungry with Laura at the helm. Her chef’s skill became a gift to our Scouts, teaching them techniques that will stay with them long after they leave the program.

Laura’s enthusiasm, her willingness to learn beside the youth, and the genuine relationships she built have left a permanent mark on our Troop. The memories she created will stay with us as we say goodbye to an extraordinary Scouter. We will miss you, Scouter Laura.

A Tribute to an Extraordinary Scouter, Leader, and Mentor

For the past five years, Troop Master Ed Loghrin has been a cornerstone of our Scout Troop — a steady, unflappable presence who has shaped our youth into confident, capable, community‑minded young people. His leadership has been nothing short of transformational.

Ed is one of the most reliable, resourceful, and creative Scouters I have ever had the privilege of serving alongside. He brings a calm, grounded energy to every adventure, every meeting, every chaotic moment. Whether coaching youth through repetitive skill development or navigating the unpredictable realities of Scouting life, Ed never shows frustration, never loses patience, and never forgets the bigger picture: the growth of the youth in his care.

He has an extraordinary ability to understand the whole needs of the group, ensuring that youth who are ready to lead have the space, encouragement, and trust required to shine — all without needing recognition for the support he quietly provides. Ed is the kind of leader who fixes the crowns of those around him without ever drawing attention to the fact that he’s doing it.

When Ed is present, everyone breathes easier. You know that even if things go sideways — if plans unravel, weather turns, gear breaks, or the universe simply decides to test us — Ed has already packed a paddle… or will fashion one out of whatever is lying around. He is the definition of prepared, steady, and capable.

Ed, you have been an absolute treasure to our Scout Troop. Your impact on my daughter and her fellow Troop Mates is immeasurable. You’ve helped guide them from uncertain pre‑teens into emerging young adults who trust themselves, trust their peers, and trust the process of learning through adventure.

Even though you’ve shed the title of Troop Master for the quieter role of Venturer Advisor, your influence remains foundational. You will continue to be the anchor our youth rely on as they navigate the transition from awkward teenager to confident, contributing young adult. The Venturer Company will do great things with you as their advisor — of that I have no doubt.
