Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington Our Vision
Inspire philanthropy to create transformational change that supports local initiatives in our community today and always.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS

Community Foundations bring together people who care about their communities. They are independent, volunteer-driven, charitable organizations that aim to strengthen their communities by facilitating philanthropy, by partnering with donors to build permanent endowments and other funds from which they support community projects, and by providing leadership on issues of broad

community concern. The Community Foundation movement is global. The number of Community Foundations has nearly doubled in the past 10 years and there are now over 1600 Community Foundations worldwide. Though all Community Foundations in Canada and worldwide operate with a similar model, we are all separate, independent Foundations.

Community Foundation for L&A Appoints Three New Board Directors

The Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington appointed three new Board Directors at its annual meeting in May. Doug Alkenbrack, Adrienne Harris-Hale, and Brent Petticrew have joined the Board for an initial three-year term as the foundation continues to support local causes and student awards.

“We are thrilled to have these community leaders join our Board,” said Pat Garrod, Chair of the CFFLA Board. “We have been building momentum over that last number of years with a renewed focus on creating impact with proactive fund development to create more funds that will enable us to support more causes and students in L&A County.”

Doug Alkenbrack was raised and educated in Napanee. He attended Prince Charles elementary school and NDSS. His father Douglas was a lumberman and later a Member of Parliament for the area and his mother, Nan taught elementary school in Napanee for 40 years. Doug chose a career in medicine and graduated from Queens medical school in 1970, returning to his hometown in 1972 to open a family medicine practice. He worked as a family physician for 50 years and served as a local coroner for 42 years. Doug retired in 2022. He and his wife Shelley were fortunate to have raised three children, Jennifer, Sarah, and Andrew and now are proud to be enjoying eight grandchildren.

Adrienne Harris-Hale graduated from New Hampshire Hospital School of Nursing and received a BA from Queens University. Her career included hospital, community and rehabilitation nursing and was a consultant for hospitals for specialized equipment, developed protocols and educated staff. Adrienne has been member of a number of Boards including Lamplighter Preschool, Seniors Outreach and L&A County General Hospital Foundation where she was Treasurer for 4 years, Vice Chair for 3 years, Chair for 3 years and Past Chair for 1 year. She is an active volunteer at The Prince Charles School hot lunch program and assists at special events, Newburgh United Church fundraising events, the Terry Fox Run and a telephone partner for seniors who need assistance. When people need help, she helps. Adrienne is married with two grown children in our community and three granddaughters.

Brent Petticrew has a decade of experience in the financial services industry, including more than six years with Kawartha Financial Services, where he currently serves as Branch Manager of the Napanee location. In this role, he leads a team focused on delivering personalized financial solutions while fostering strong relationships within the community. Brent’s leadership is grounded in integrity, accountability and a commitment to helping individuals, families, and local businesses achieve their financial goals. Brent brings this well-rounded background, along with a genuine passion for community development to his role on the Board of Directors and Treasurer where he is dedicated to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life across Lennox and Addington.

In other business, the CFFLA Board appointed its Officers for 2026:
Chair: Pat Garrod
Vice-Chair: Gary Shortt
Treasurer: Brent Petticrew
