🌧️🐴 Rain, Rain… Bring the Hay! 🐴🌧️

Southern Alberta has certainly been getting its share of rain lately! While the puddles are growing and the horses are keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, our riders continue to benefit from the incredible programs that happen here at the barn every day.

Therapeutic riding helps build confidence, communication, strength, independence, and connection - and none of it would be possible without the support of our amazing community. ❤️

🌧️Due to weather conditions Journeys will be postponed on June 2nd.🌧️

The Spring session will run one week longer and end on June 30 so that we still have seven classes.

The schedule for June 9th will go out towards the end of the week. As always you can text or call my cell anytime.

🐴✨ Week 2 at JTRS ✨🐴

Another wonderful week of learning, confidence building, and connection at JTRS.

☀️Building from Week 1’s focus on steering, this week’s objective in Class 2 focused on BALANCE through the turns. Activities like “planting the garden” for spring 🌱helped riders practice coordination, body awareness, posture, and core stability while navigating changes in direction on horseback.

These types of exercises help riders build confidence, strengthen balance and motor skills, and continue developing their connection and communication with their horse.

These are just a few snapshots from another fun and meaningful week around the barn:

- Daily instructor check-ins before the start of the first class to review riders, horses, volunteers, and the plan for the day.

- Charlie, our big half draft horse, was in action with rider Robbie and volunteer Robin working on balance and coordination through the turns.

- Jerry and Hank were back at it with horse lead Corry — these two always enjoy their time together in class!

- Riders also enjoyed playing everyone’s favourite game… find the kitty!

- Please also help us welcome new volunteer Ellen, along with new horses Gunner and Turkey, to the riding program this session! We officially have quite the lineup of handsome sorrels at JTRS these days!

We are so grateful for our riders, families, volunteers, and horses who make weeks like this possible. 💛

WEEK 1 RECAP- What a great first week back at JTRS Spring Sessions 2026💛

We loved welcoming new students to the barn this week and already seeing some pretty special partnerships starting to form — between both horses and riders!

This week’s lesson focus was “Control & Steering” with our theme “Back in the Saddle.”

The riders jumped right in, worked hard, and had so many great moments building confidence, communication, and control with their horses. We are already so proud of them!

We also have a new addition to the barn…

And yes… those adorable feathered fetlocks are getting LOTS of attention already 😍

A HUGE thank you to our incredible volunteers who help make these programs possible. From helping riders, to tacking horses, to supporting students through new challenges and celebrating the little wins along the way — we truly couldn’t do it without you 💛

Hi everyone, Hank here 🐴

I’m one of the JTRS therapeutic riding horses, and I quietly get to be part of something pretty special. Each day, I help riders build confidence, find their balance, and learn new ways to communicate — and I do my best to listen just as much as I lead.

I may not say much, but I pay close attention. Sometimes a small step forward for a rider feels like a really big win for both of us.

This summer, if you’re able, I’d love your support through Rogers Birdies for Kids. All donations are matched by 50%, which means a little goes even further to care for horses like me and support the riders we work with.

(And between us… the person who runs this page says I’m quite handsome, but I’ll just take that as a bonus.)

Honouring the Horses Who Meant So Much 💫

Yesterday, we honoured the therapy horses who are no longer with us —
not just for what they did, but for who they were.

Each one had their own presence… their own quiet way of meeting people.
And in their presence, people found something they couldn’t always put into words.

They met people exactly where they were.
No judgment. No expectations. Just steadiness.

On days that felt heavy, overwhelming, or uncertain…
they stood beside people and made things feel just a little more okay.
- They didn’t ask for explanations.
- They didn’t need words.
- They just stayed.

And in that quiet presence, something shifted —
- confidence where there was doubt,
- calm where there was overwhelm,
- connection where there was distance.

Over time, they became part of people’s stories…
part of healing…
part of becoming.

Today, we are proud to honour 34 incredible horses with this plaque —
their individual photos — each one remembered for who they were, in their kind eyes.

We are also deeply grateful to the owners who shared them with this work.
And even though they’re no longer here…

Their absence is felt because their presence mattered so much.
- It lives on in the people they steadied.
- In the courage they helped build.
- In the lives that are different because they were here.

Thank you for everything you carried.
You will always be part of the ♥️ of this place.
