USW Local 8782 stands with our community! ✊ Solidarity isn't just about what happens inside the gates—it’s about protecting the community we all call home.
On Friday, Local 8782 members were out on the streets of Jarvis to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbors, families, and retirees rallying against the proposed 15,000-home Nanticoke mega-development.
This controversial Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) bypasses proper local planning to pave over thousands of acres of farmland and employment land. Our community's infrastructure simply cannot handle dropping 40,000 people into the shadow of the Lake Erie Works. No municipal water on Highway 6, overwhelmed roads, overcrowded schools, and strained emergency services—it just doesn't make sense.
More importantly, this massive residential push threatens the long-term future of Stelco Lake Erie Works, the economic backbone of this entire region. As our union brothers, sisters, and retirees like Wes Poirier highlighted at the rally, we cannot let outside developers gamble with our local economy and our livelihoods.
We are a proud rural community, and we won't let our voices be ignored. Thank you to everyone who came out, held signs, handed out flyers, and to MPP Bobbi Ann Brady for standing with the people.
The fight isn't over. Keep speaking up, keep showing up, and let’s protect Haldimand County together!
