Some of the fawns in our care have moved to the big pen. They seem to enjoy it. I was trying to video their fawn zoomies, but they stopped as soon as I pulled the camera out.

And so it begins…

Yesterday we had several hit by car turtles come in.

Unfortunately one was dead on arrival and one required euthanasia due to the severity of her injuries.

Both turtles were gravid and we recovered the eggs so that we may incubate them. The resulting hatchlings will be released. This is a last thing we can do for these unfortunate female turtles.

This year we have added a new large volume incubator to our arsenal as a part of a very generous donation towards our turtle rehabilitation program.

This little gosling got his foot entangled in some fishing line.

Without opposable thumbs it’s impossible for the goslings to get it off.

It was really tight around his little leg and I can only imagine it to be very painful.

Even that tiny piece of line (see pic) can cause a big injury and lots of suffering.

The gosling has had sedation and pain medication so hopefully he’ll sleep it off for a while.

This gorgeous gentleman was brought to us by a biologist who specializes in snakes.

She was called in to assist with foxsnakes at a golf course. The golf course is fine with the snakes residing there, but there is some concern from various golfers.

It is a precarious situation. We understand people are fearful of snakes, but Eastern Foxsnakes are a harmless, none venomous species who don’t tend to venture to far from their hibernaculum, so relocating isn’t really an option for these animals.

In this particular situation the biologist found the snake to be not acting right and underweight. On exam we found a variety of injuries.

The snake will remain in our care until fully recovered.

In the mean time all of us hope to work with the golf course on doing public outreach and eduction to prevent these magnificent creatures from becoming injured by fearful golfers.

Please let’s all peacefully coexist and not do harm to a harmless snake going about his day.

Not every day we open a crate an out comes a pileated woodpecker.

They aren’t rare albeit not real common this far south.

Unfortunately this guy hit a window pretty hard and has head trauma.

We are hopeful he’ll recover in due time. He is resting now with help of pain meds.

A huge thank you to the kind folks who recently dropped of a large quantity of fresh fruits and veggies. The wildlife in our care are enjoying them and the people here enjoy seeing the animals enjoying them.

We are grateful for all the donations people make. Without these (monetary and item) donations we simply couldn’t do what we do!

Thank you!

This cute little American Toad unfortunately met a lawnmower.

We are hopeful he’ll fully recover in due time with some medical and supportive care.

We are grateful to the person who brought him out. Toads, frogs, snakes and salamanders matter and medically there is a lot we can do for them if they are injured.

Although not unexpected…it was a fawn/turtle weekend for us!

Unfortunately we also had 65 mm of rain on Saturday.

Hopefully we get some sunshine this week so things can dry up and some of the animals in our care can return to the wild.
