Todo Kai

Todo Kai This page is dedicated to the furtherance of the martial art: Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido in Nanaimo and the surrounding communities.

Iaido is the practice of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword in accordance with a historical tradition passed in an unbroken teacher student relationship for over four hundred years. Iaido is a non contact, non competitive martial art that is suitable for all people age sixteen and over. The practice of Iaido is dedicated to the physical and mental development of our students through the p

ractice of techniques and the application of various "waza", describing the use of the sword in accordance with our school traditions. While Iaido is a martial art dedicated to the practice of the sword, the principles and development as a result of Iaido practice also have long reaching benefit over life outside the dojo as well.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Iaido is a Japanese martial art with a long history. It is referred to as a "moving zen" because of its focus on precise, controlled, fluid movements. In this non-competitive atmosphere, use the Samurai sword and Iaido's age-old techniques to experience and further develop your mind, body and spirit...

Todo Kai would like to take this moment to congratulate the Vancouver Iaido Club for hosting another successful Iaido Kokusai Renmei Seminar.

This year marked the 9th annual North American seminar, with students coming together to practice under the tutelage of Mochizai sensei, Uchizono sensei, and Taniguchi Sensei.

The Event was well attended by students from across Canada and the USA (with some international students as well!), all capped off by a outstanding Embu and Shinsa demonstrating the fruits of diligent practice.

As we return home to our respective dojos to reflect and practice, we at Todo Kai would like to congratulate those who received a new dan level and encourage them to reflect on Mochizai Sensei's final words and "work hard to fill the container that is your new dan".

Thank you once again to the Vancouver Iaido club for their generous hosting and participation.

Todo kai would like to thank everyone who attended our one day seminar yesterday November the 4th in Nanaimo.

The event was a great success with local members and attendees from our fellow iaidoka from the Vancouver Iaido club.

It was fantastic to be able to practice together with everyone and participate in the spirit and memory of the late Esaka sensei.

Thanks to everyone who came and practiced with us yesterday for our one day Iaido Seminar.

It was lovely to see many familiar faces and meet many more.

We hope that the time spent in Nanaimo and the instruction over the course of the day will carry forward in your Iaido until we meet again.

Thank you to Gunstone Sensei for hosting.
Thank you to Scott and Ian for food and beverage services.
Thank you to Peter Pao for his shutterbug tendencies.
Thank you to everyone who traveled far and wide, offered to carpool, and arrived in good spirits to practice with us, braving humidity, ferry cancellations, and spontaneous rain storms.

Thank you for making this event a huge success.

on April 10th the Central Vancouver Island Japanese Canadian Cultural Society, hosted their annual Hanami celebration to commemorate the planting of twelve 'Akebono' cherry trees planted in Bowen Park this year.

As part of this Celebration, Todo kai performed waza while Sensei gave a brief overview of this history and technical aspects of Iaido.

Unseasonably cold for April, the day was greeted by snow followed by showers. Hot tea fortified all in attendance and the event went forward unabated.

Here Scott and Dan brave the cold weather and drizzle to perform Shihogiri of the Suio style.
