This Valentine’s Day, the world feels a little heavier.
This day is often wrapped in pink paper and heart-shaped boxes, but at its core it has always been about something much deeper than roses and chocolate. It is about choosing love. Choosing one another. Choosing care over indifference.
As we reflect on the tragic event in Tumbler Ridge and the heartbreaking loss of a life in our Bonaventure community, we are reminded how fragile and precious our time together truly is. A single moment can change everything. A single act can ripple outward in ways we cannot fully measure.
In times like this, love is not a grand gesture. It is a quiet check-in. A text that says, “Are you okay?” It is patience when someone seems distant. It is giving space. It is offering presence. It is choosing not to assume, but to listen.
Grief moves through communities like a tide. Some feel it sharply. Some feel it quietly. Some may not know what they are feeling at all. Let’s give each other room for that.
Today, let’s hold each other a little closer. Let’s soften our edges. Let’s remember that every person we pass is carrying something we may never see.
Love is not just romance. It is protection. It is compassion. It is accountability. It is community.
On this Valentine’s Day, may we choose love in the ways that matter most. May we look out for one another. May we speak kindly. May we care deeply.
And may we never forget that our greatest strength has always been each other. ❤️
