Nanaimo Lions is celebrating 80 years of service to the community. We are planning a "Celebrating Community" event at Maffeo Sutton Park, August 22nd.

The Nanaimo Lions have supported many non-profits, school groups, support groups and individuals over the years. We are inviting the groups (free of charge) to set up an information booth to share their good works in the community.

It's hard to calculate how much the Nanaimo Lions has contributed over the 80 years. In the last 4 years alone, we have contributed around $50,000 each year = $200.000 if you calculate at least $25,000 over the other 76 years, we have contributed AT LEAST $2+ million.

Maffeo Sutton Park holds a special place in our hearts. In 2001, the Nanaimo Lions funded the building of the Lions Pavilion at the Maffeo Sutton Park. This completed the second of two major projects in Maffeo Sutton Park by Nanaimo Lions. Prior to the Lions Pavilion project, the Nanaimo Lions Club built the “Lions Great Bridge” over the Millstone connecting the foreshore walkway. To fund that project inscribed bricks were sold and placed in the retaining walls on both sides of the bridge. The combined projects represent over a million dollars cost to complete these two projects.

Nanaimo Lions is turning 80! 🦁✨
Join us in celebrating 80th years of service to the community. We are putting out a call to all of the groups, organizations, non-profits, support groups and clubs that have received support from the Nanaimo Lions over the years, to join us in "Celebrating Community"!

We are holding an event August 22 at Maffeo Sutton Park, where groups can FREE OF CHARGE set up a display to share the great work that they do in the community.

If your group would like to participate, please contact us at [email protected].

• Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026
• Location: Maffeo Sutton Park
• Time: 10 am – 2 pm (set up @ 8:30am)
• RSVP by June 30, 2026 so we can get a headcount! For more details to come.

Your local Port Alice Lions Club is planning a bottle drive for Sunday February 22nd. Returnables can be dropped at the ballfield anytime, but please NO garbage! Thank you for your support as we plan our Easter Egg Hunt and prepare for student Scholarships!
