On the 7th of May, we had our Commanding Officer's (CO's) Parade where cadets and officers came together to listen to a presentation from Retired Lieutenant Commander Beresford (LCdr Ret'd), about his experience from the Sea Cadet Program.

LCdr (Ret'd) Beresford joined RCSCC Amphion in 1963 after being in Navy League, and was a cadet for 8 years aging out as a Petty Officer First Class (PO1). Throughout his cadet career, he had the ability to travel to many different Naval Bases for training including: HMCS Quadra, HMCS Cornwallis for P&RT, and HMCS Naden for the Bosn's mate course. After aging out of the cadet program, LCdr (RTD) Beresford had joined the Royal Australian Navy as a submarine chef. He says that "Because of my training from Cadets my career in the Australian Navy took off in the right direction."

Returning back to Amphion, LCdr (Ret'd) Beresford presented an Officer's Sword that he used on ceremonial occasions for 32 years to our Commanding Officer, Lt(N) Daigneault. In addition to the sword, he also presented a series of old Sea Cadet ranks and badges, that will be displayed in our cadet hall.

On the 7th of May, we had a member of our adult staff attestation. Naval Cadet (NCdt) Kostamo officially became a member of the Canadian Armed Forces through the formal attestation ceremony by taking a Oath of Allegiance to Canada.

NCdt Kostamo joined the cadet program in 2017 at RCSCC 100 Admiral Mainguy and aged out in 2024. Throughout her cadet career, she helped out Amphion with senior weekends alongside Admiral Mainguy which made both corps flourish. After she aged out, she had become a Civilian Instructor, where she supported the Sea Cadet program by taking on a variety of roles such as being a Seamanship Officer, Supply Officer, and Advanced Leadership Program Coordinator. NCdt Kostamo says that she felt a sense of belonging into becoming a Naval Cadet, and that "The uniform will open more doors for me"

Bravo Zulu NCdt Kostamo!

On the 3rd of May, 2026, 6 Cadets from 136 Amphion and 848 Royal Roads helped out at the Nanaimo Yacht Club with their Sail Past Ceremony.

First, the cadets took part in the ceremony as members of the colour party, where they hoisted pennants. After the ceremony, they accompanied the Royal Canadian Marine Search And Rescue (SAR) vessels for the Sail Past. They learned what it's like operating as a member of SAR and had an amazing time!

On the 3rd of May, 2026, cadets from 136 Amphion and 205 Collishaw attended the Battle of Atlantic Parade, hosted by Legion Branch 256. Each year on the first Sunday of May since 1946, ceremonies and parades are held across Canada to commemorate all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the battle.

Throughout 1939 to 1945, Canadians contributed their support on the front lines as sailors serving on warships, and on civilian boats. Canada's most major contribution made was providing naval es**rt ships to Halifax, Sidney, St. John's and New York, providing merchant ships carrying equipment and supplies.

Cadets helped out in the ceremony, they stood in division, flag party, cenotaph sentries, as well as ringing the bell. Today, cadets recognize and honour the lives lost throughout the Battle of Atlantic, and carry on the word of the importance of acknowledging the past.

Throughout the past two training nights, cadets took part in Coast Salish drum making and playing!

First, cadets learned the creation process of the drums from Donna Manson, who is from the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Cadets use the deer skin and cedar wood to create a Coast Salish drum, giving the materials new life.

After creating the drum, they participated in a song which was sung in a traditional Coast Salish language, Hul'q'umi'num. Lead by Patrick Aleck from the Stz'uminus and Penelakut Nations, he shared a song named "The Equality Song" for everyone Indigenous and Non-Indigenous.

Our cadets learning these practices help preserve the culture of First Nations communities and recognize whose land we live, learn, and do our work.
