It's been busy at the Wing these past few weeks! On April 26th there was massive cleanup both up and down stairs and outside. Before the weekend even kicked off, several volunteers were onsite to prep for painting.
The new exterior blue colour is very much closer to the official RCAF 'Snowbird' blue but lightened a bit. You can see from the pictures that the original front door has faded (it was painted about 10 years ago by another volunteer) and was showing signs of wear and tear, scratches and so on, but with the careful work by Grace D., it looks fantastic. The railings leading downstairs and alongside the portico were prepped and painted by Lorne T., along with some help from the cadets, and wowza, the first of the two Sea Can's is looking absolutely amazing! Our master of pancakes and all things paint, Ken J, brought in some help from one of his guys, Marshall, and even then, it has taken him quite a few full days of work to complete the job. The rest of the exterior doors are slowing being given facelifts as time permits. The sunshine is lovely, but the paint dries too quickly. Also given a coat of paint is the cadets new tin shed which will be used as a storage for bottle recycling. Next in line for painting with their help, will be the cadet Sea Can.
Here are just a few pictures of the painting part of the work party, but trust me, the cadets, parents, staff, and Wing volunteers were beating back blackberries, cleaning windows, shelves, stoves and floors. I think one of the cadets was tasked with taking some pictures which I'm sure will show up at some point. All told, on April 26th, the official clean-up day, there were over 60 people pitching in. Thank you one and all.
