Personal Reflections
On this day of reflection and remembrance, every land acknowledgment we begin with carries a profound responsibility. While some have noted that these statements can sometimes appear performative, it is crucial that we move beyond words to meaningful action. We must take this opportunity to deeply consider the ongoing realities faced by Indigenous communities — the children who were taken from their homes, the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls who have yet to return, and the systemic barriers that continue to hinder safety, well-being, and justice.

For us, September 30th is not a holiday. It is a reminder that reconciliation is not a gift to be given, but a debt to be repaid — economically, politically, and socially. It is not a day for symbolism, but a day to ask: how do we take responsibility in the systems we inhabit, at home and at work, so that justice becomes inevitable rather than optional?
We sit with the truth that this work is about rebuilding structures so they no longer depend on dispossession, but on fairness. And we accept that this debt will never be settled by reflection alone. September 30th is a day of truth, of responsibility, and of action.

As we approach Sept. 30th, this video is a reminder to "Listen to Survivors". This documentary is 30 minutes in length. It is remarkable for many reasons including hearing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Chair, Senator Murray Sinclair, describe why the TRC's work is imperative today and every day. It's going to take a long time for reconciliation to the First Nations of Canada. But we all can play a part. Everytime we do 'something', we get closer to honouring the truth and honouring Survivors.

Please watch ,listen and do your part. Whatever that means to you.

Please also take care. This documentary shows videos of some Survivors telling their stories. Heart wrenching.
