Part-Time Job Opportunity: Learners’ Advocate, The Literacy Circle (TLC) - Victoria, BC

Equity & Preference Statement: In alignment with our commitment to culturally safe learning spaces and pursuant to Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference will be given to qualified applicants who are Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.

The Literacy Circle (TLC) is seeking a dedicated Learners’ Advocate to support Indigenous and Métis adult Learners, including Residential School and Intergenerational Survivors, in our small-group English literacy classes at the Saanich Centennial Library.

About the Role: The Learners’ Advocate acts as a trusted peer liaison and support person in the classroom, combining administrative assistance with community navigation to help Learners build confidence, overcome systemic barriers, and access vital resources.

Key Responsibilities:
Learner Support & Navigation: Listen to Learners' goals and assist them in navigating community resources (housing, medical services, counseling, food security, bus pass applications).
Classroom & Administrative Support: Conduct morning check-in calls, assist teachers with class prep, maintain supplies, and manage light administrative tasks (photocopying, basic Google Drive updates).

Hospitality & Events: Coordinate and serve lunches, manage setup and cleanup, and assist with field trip planning.

Qualifications & Skills:
Strong interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with Google Drive and comfort navigating online forms.
Comfort advocating for individuals with healthcare, housing, and social service institutions.
Lived experience within Indigenous or Métis communities is strongly valued.

Position Details:
Location: On-site at Saanich Centennial Library
Hours: Part-time: Tuesdays 3–4 hours per week starting at 11:30am
Pay: Honorarium to be discussed in interviews
