What else would you like to see happening at The Old Firehall?

It's been a difficult year or so for The Old Firehall as we're sure you remember, there were a couple surprises thrown our way and as a result we are still on a month-to-month lease while we wait for our chance to respond to the Village's RFP.

BUT we are doing our best to continue offering programs and services to our community and we'd like to hear from you... What else do you think we (or maybe YOU) could provide? Be it an activity that could be run in the upstairs studio space, a weekly or monthly club that gathers in the market space, a cooking class or competition...?

PLEASE tell us your ideas and let's see if we can bring more community to our already beautiful community!

Have you ever heard the story of stone soup?

This will be fun! The Old Firehall Collective will have a table set up at the harvest and heritage fair on Sept 27th and will be gratefully accepting donations to be used in making a "stone soup". The soup will be prepared and available to the community on Tuesday Sept 29th from 11-1 for our "Stone Soup Cafe" in the market space of The Old Firehall. (Don't worry, the soup kitchen will also be running as usual that day!)

Here's the story in nutshell:
Hungry travelers arrive in a village, but the suspicious townspeople claim they have no food to share. Undeterred, the travelers build a fire in the public square, fill a pot with water, and drop a smooth stone inside. When curious villagers ask what they are doing, the travelers explain they are making a delicious "stone soup" to share with everyone in the village, though it would taste even better with a little cabbage, carrots, potatoes etc. One by one, villagers bring out their own hidden ingredients to add to the pot. In the end, they share a rich and wonderful feast together, realizing that the real magic was never in the stone, but in working together to create something from nothing.
