Arrow Lakes Search and Rescue is a volunteer community-based search and rescue team servicing the Arrow Lakes and West Kootenays 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. ALSAR is incorporated as a non-profit organization under the British Columbia Societies Act.

The chapter hosts a travellers meeting in Nakusp each year, the ideal motorcycle destination.

Practice this week was a fun one!

Six of our members took out the ATV’s for a ride up to Big Sister lookout.

It was a beautiful evening, and great to get more familiar with the roads, trails and machines.

ALSAR had a great time helping with the Build, Bail & Sail event hosted by Society for Nakusp Community Events yesterday.

We are very impressed with the creativity and craftsmanship of the boats that participants built with $200 or less, and in only 4 hours.

We had some good laughs, and delicious tacos from Tyler’s new taco truck!

We are recruiting!

If you:

✅ Live in the Arrow Lakes area
✅ Are 19 years old or older
✅ Are willing to commit time to being part of a dedicated team of volunteer first responders
✅ Are a team player
✅ Have some experience in wilderness environments

We are looking for members who value respect, peer support, and volunteer safety. Being a volunteer responder is rewarding, but it is a big time commitment. Typically, a SAR volunteer logs 200 + hours annually.

Water hazards 🌊

With the Arrow Lakes reservoir continuing to fill, there are many logs and hazards in the water.

Last night during boat practice, our team came across this hazard in the water near the mouth of McDonald Creek, north of “Little Bahamas.”

Keep your eyes open on the water for hazards, and slow down in areas with debris.

Practice this week was stretcher carrying and GSAR rope skills on Pepe Trail at Mt. Abriel. Great work, team!

Thanks to the Arrow Lakes Historical Society for accepting our donation and hauling away this beautiful map table!

SAR is always modernizing, and many aspects are moving digital (including mapping). We are happy to see this table go to a good home where it will be used.
