Here you will find information about who we are, the services we offer, volunteer activities, and any other related information dedicated to supporting our community of Nain The Nain CARE (Community Assistance Relief Efforts) Committee was established in 1989 by Joan Dicker, Sophie Ford, Sarah Webb, Mary White, and later joined by Nancy Winters and Sue Webb, throughout it's establishment until 2024 other Committee Members included Pauline Dicker, Regina Dicker, Simon Kohlmeister, and Kathy Ford. The Committee Members volunteered countless hours and dedicated their time to fundraise and support many Nainimiut during challenging times as well as the Nain Moravian Church. The Nain CARE Committee was lead by Joan Dicker, a strong leader and advocate for our community, language, and culture. In September 2025, to honour Joan's request and the efforts made by the previous Committee, Nain CARE was incorporated into a nonprofit organization that remains focused on supporting Nainimiut and the Nain Moravian Church, with the goal of expanding into language and cultural programming and poverty relief. is a funding-and-volunteer based organization that aims to provide support to encourage and promote the social welfare, wellbeing, language, and culture of Inuit in our community.

Notice to Nainimiut from Nain CARE Inc.

We are proud to announce that we have received substantial funding from the Inuit Nunaat Fund! This is very exciting news for us and for what it means for our programming!

Good news! We are looking to hire an Assistant to the Board of Directors. 25hours/week, $30per hour with 4% vacation pay.
We are also looking for office space, and trying to order office supplies before the boat stops running. For more information you can reach out to [email protected] .

With this funding we will be able to support our core programming over the next three years. But this also means we have to organize our administrative work and processes.

Due to the large amounts of time and effort it takes to sort through this work, we have to pause our programs and services until we can get someone hired and all our administrative responsibilities are in order.

We are hoping this will be a maximum of two weeks but it may be longer. Only emergency airfare will be covered during this time.

Again, we would like to remind Nainimiut that we are a volunteer Board of Directors. We are hopeful this will be the last time we have to take the time pause our programs and services.

We apologize for the short notice and we will work to be operational again as soon as possible.

SH Vega – Community Visit

September 25 | 113 Guests

The SH Vega will arrive tomorrow with 113 passengers. Guests will begin coming ashore at approximately 1:00 PM. The brass band will play as guests disembark and come ashore.

Schedule

1:00 PM – Ship Arrival / Hikers Come Ashore First
Hikers will be the first guests to come ashore. The brass band will play as guests disembark. Once the hikers have come ashore, the guided hike through Annainaks will begin.

After Hikers Disembark – Guided Hike Begins
The guided hike through Annainaks, accompanied by a bear guard, will be available for guests who are comfortable with physical activity and outdoor terrain.

After the Hikers Depart – Remaining Guests Come Ashore
The remaining guests will come ashore after the hikers have left for the trail and will proceed to the church for the welcome ceremony.

1:30 PM – Church Welcome
Guests proceed directly to the church for the welcome ceremony.

2:45 PM – Welcome Ceremony Concludes

3:00 PM – Walking Tours Begin

4:00 PM – Youth & Community Presentations

6:00 PM – Final Zodiac Departure

Guests will have time to explore the community, visit local sites, and enjoy free time before returning to the ship.

1:00 PM – Final Zodiac Departure
The final zodiac will depart the community at 1:00 PM.

With summer nearly over, we’re so happy to share that two families have filled the seats to the Aujak Program!

Andrew Andersen and Kelly McLean and their boys, who will be heading out to Napâttusuak, and Martin Andersen and Skyler Hurley and their boys, who will be heading to Nutâk.

Both families will be heading out within the next week or two, with a beautiful goal in mind: Inuktitut as part of their everyday learning and life on the land. 🌿

Their time will be filled with learning about animals, weather, hunting, fishing, the land, and traditional knowledge — with lessons happening every day and the whole family learning together.

We can’t wait to see how this experience unfolds for both families and to hear about everything they learn along the way. We’re wishing both families a safe, meaningful and unforgettable time out on the land

Nain CARE Inc. is excited to welcome cruise ships back to Nain this year. The first arrival, “LE LYRIAL,” will be docking on September 16, with 125 passengers from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We are looking to hire community members to help with the following roles: (all of these are paid positions)

* Community Tour Guides (5 needed): You’ll receive a set Route and will lead guests through 4 stops, sharing stories and information about each location (for example, stopping outside at the Nunatsiavut Government building to talk about our self-government). Visitors are usually eager to learn about anything and everything of our community, so talk all out!..

* Bear Guard (1 needed): Must have bear guard training (with own Kukiutik) and be comfortable leading a small group safely up Mount Sophie. Share interesting facts about local wildlife, such as the polar bear rock, edible berries, and the natural surroundings.

* Community Performers: We’re seeking 2 throat singers, 2 seal hunting demonstrators, Inuit drummer, and an Inuit games demonstrator (high kick, seal crawl, owl hop are great options).

Additional Community Information:

* We encourage anyone planning to go off to use the East ramp dock for boating during this time, as the cruise ship will be launching on the pad at the Warf.

* All local artists are encouraged to prepare and display their work for sale. John Terriak will be at the Art Studio, ready to welcome visitors and showcase local art.

* The Northern Store has kindly offered space for people to set up and sell their crafts or goods inside the store.

* Two NG Tourism staff members will also be present, assisting and supporting activities throughout the day.
