Happening tomorrow!

On Saturday, June 13th from 11am-2pm we will be filming a musical performance at the Centre and we need your help!

We're looking for people who can join us for those 3 hours to sit in the audience while we tape a musical performance. We have two amazing Acadian artists coming from Claire and Quebec. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the music! There will be breaks, and refreshments will be available.

The taping will be used as part of future promotional videos for the Centre. If you can dress in Acadian colours, that would be amazing. There will also be an opportunity for sharing your thoughts in an interview, for those who are interested.

If you want to take part, just show up for 10 am on June 13th at the Centre, 7039 NS-207 Highway, West Chezzetcook.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Malcom Firth Memorial Fishing Derby

The community turned out on a cold windy day on Saturday for this year’s Malcom Firth Memorial Fishing Derby at the Orenda Canoe Club on Lake Echo. Grace Firth, a granddaughter of the derby’s founder Malcom Firth, presided over weighing in the fish and giving away dozens of prizes from local sponsors. There were hotdogs and hamburgers on the side, plus a plant sale with lots of tomatoes to plant out once it gets warm enough.

Jason Berringer (left) and Derrick Wolfe both caught 14-ounce fish and split the $200 grand prize for the heaviest fish. Jack Manette (left, with Grace Forth)won the Youth award, a new fishing rod, with an 11-once fish. (Jack won the $200 grand prize last year!) This year was the first in a while with no fish over one pound.

Grace laughed about having grown up going to the Derby every year since she was born “I never caught any fish,” Grace said. “As kids, we had fun just hanging around. It’s great to see our community coming together, and the kids all having a good time. And it’s all volunteers working so hard to make it happen.”
