⚓️ Flashback Friday ⚓️

In the mid-1980s, LCdr Ron Borland dreamed of having a Sea Cadet Corps in Lower Sackville for the youth in the community. At that time, cadets from the Sackville area were being taken by bus to Halifax where they paraded with 1 Nelson Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps. However, in 1987 this all changed!

LCdr Borland along with his wife Jean and many other community members came together and formed 305 RCSCC SACKVILLE! With this in place cadets were recruited, staff were enrolled, and Navy League Branch was formed. RCL Calais Branch 162 graciously stepped forward to be one of the corps biggest sponsors. 305 Sackville was established and continues to proudly parade today!

We continue to celebrate the vibrant history of 305 RCSCC Sackville! Although Ron and Jean are no longer with us, their memory is kept alive through our cadets and staff.

October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to celebrating the voices and power of girls, championing their rights worldwide, and reflecting on the challenges they continue to face because of their gender. In 2022, we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child.

Across Canada and around the world, girls are making an impact and creating positive change in their communities and far beyond. They are leading the way as students, entrepreneurs, volunteers and activists, and proving that you are never too young to shape the future and improve the lives of others.

We value the contributions of girls in the Cadet Program and support them in reaching their potential.

Cadet Day is an opportunity to recognize the positive impact the cadet program has in shaping Nova Scotia youth and in shaping well-rounded, community-minded future leaders.

The cadet program offers young people an opportunity to come together and participate in a variety of challenging and fun activities that build skills they’ll use the rest of their lives!
