WE’RE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER DRIVERS!

South Central Cancer Resource is looking for volunteer drivers in **Crystal City, Pilot Mound, Manitou, La Rivière, Carman, Morris, Rosenort and Emerson!**

Our volunteer drivers make a meaningful difference by helping individuals get to cancer-related treatments and medical appointments. Sometimes, a ride can make all the difference in someone’s journey.

Here’s how you can help:
🚘 Provide rides to appointments and treatments
⛽ Mileage and eligible expenses are covered
💙 Make a positive difference in your community

Whether you can help regularly or just occasionally, your time and willingness to help are greatly appreciated!

Join us for a community fundraiser hosted by Pembina Valley Hospice House in support of South Central Cancer Resource!

Enjoy an evening of food, drinks, music and good company while supporting local individuals and families facing cancer. Every ticket purchased helps support the programs and services SCCR provides throughout South Central Manitoba. 💚

Join the Hawks on Saturday, October 24 at Morden Arena as they take on the Interlake Lightning from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. A bake sale will also be taking place starting at 12:00 PM, with all proceeds going toward SCCR.

Cancer can be hard on friendships.

If someone you care about is going through cancer, you may not know what to say. You may worry about saying the wrong thing, or feel like you’re bothering them.

Keep showing up. Send the text. Make the phone call. Drop off a coffee. Sit with them. Ask how they’re doing, and listen.

You don’t have to fix anything. You don’t need the perfect words. And you don’t have to understand exactly what they’re going through.

Just please don’t disappear.

There will be good days and really hard days. There may be times they don’t answer or don’t feel like talking. Don’t take it personally. Try again another day.

Sometimes the smallest things mean the most when someone’s world has been turned upside down.

Keep checking in. Keep showing up. They’ll remember that you did.

Our clients may not be quite ready for the cold weather yet… but Thora Titchkosky has them covered!

Thora’s thoughtful winter hat donations have become a familiar and much-appreciated kindness around the SCCR office. These cozy hats will help keep our clients warm when those Manitoba temperatures start to dip.

September 30 marks the end of our year at South Central Cancer Resource, and as we look back on the past year, one number really hits us.

289.

That’s 289 open files. But really, that’s 289 local people facing cancer who needed a little extra support.

Some needed help with mileage to get to their appointments. Some needed help with accommodation costs when treatment meant travelling away from home. Some needed one of our amazing volunteer drivers to make sure they could get where they needed to go.

We’ve also sent out more head coverings than we could possibly count, and approximately 12 women have needed to borrow a wig.

And behind every one of those numbers is a person.

Someone whose life has been turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis. Someone who already has enough to worry about without wondering how they’re going to afford the gas to get to treatment, where they’re going to stay, or how they’re going to feel like themselves when cancer changes their appearance.

That’s why this resource matters.

Sometimes what we provide might seem like a small thing to someone looking from the outside. But when you’re in the middle of cancer, that tank of gas, that accommodation, that ride, that head covering or that wig can mean so much more. It can be one less thing to worry about. One small piece of the weight lifted off your shoulders.

And we want more people to know that this support is here for our local cancer clients.

So please spread the word. If you know someone facing cancer, tell them about South Central Cancer Resource. Let them know they can reach out and that they don’t have to navigate all of this alone.

289 files. 289 people. And countless moments where we were able to say, “We can help.”
