A little meditation on feeling “behind”; like everyone else has gotten it all figured out, and you’re behind the curve.
We started tending this land 4 years ago, and it’s been non-stop work since. With our business and farm stand - it’s so easy to feel like there are so many things to do/never enough time to do ‘em/and like everyone else’s farm/gardens/market stands are doing so much better.
Well:
1. Kudos to all the beautiful homesteads and market stands out there! Our strength lies in our diversity. Comparison is a thief, and competition works against the community we’re creating. Remembering that we all start somewhere, we all have different experience, and that we all have something unique and special to offer - is a stunning parallel to the natural worlds we tend around us.
2. Slow and steady! There’s quite literally always going to be something that pops up on the daily that demands our urgent attention. Whether it’s in the gardens or in life - sometimes you need to know when to take a day. There will be days you get so much done and there will be days you don’t. Doing too much too fast is folly. Slow, measurable efforts will always win. Patience, flexibility and generosity (towards yourself and the land) works wonders (and is more enjoyable, overall).
3. Don’t let capitalistic, colonialist and status quo thinking control our magic! Be so so proud of progress, growth, potential, and the journey itself. Redefine success through gratitude/awe/joy/reflection/how the land responds.
This is something I’ve been working on for a while, and I can definitely say I struggle less than I succeed these days. Where there might be little doubts running through - I’m just choosing not to listen to them anymore 🙃
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us and pushed us to keep imagining and working towards the future.
